DVD Copy Time
Yeah I know... and I don't have time to work on my car. UGH. Hehe.
Well, I finally broke down and got the LG DVD Writer, and some blank DVDs... LG GSA-4163BI RTL For the DVD and The Verbatim 8x 4.7 GB DVD+R Spindle (100 Discs) For the media. I have two questions. First, I've got a nasty headache reading about all the different software to copy DVDs. I've read a bunch of forums, and sites, etc. and I have to say... I'm confused. Just when I think I have it narrowed down I dont! -- Some people say there are plenty of free programs out there, others say the better onces aren't. So my first question is, if I want to be able to backup just about any of my vast DVD collection, what would you recommend? Second, What do you think of the combo I bought above? Pete |

Save your money. DVDShrink, ImgTool, and DVD Decrypter are all Freeware and will enable you to back up any DVD movie. You won't have any problems. Just do a search and download them - you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the reply. How do they work? Are they the ones that run in the background while a "main" copy program is running? Or are they the only thing I use?
Sorry for the newbie questions... I'm still learning about this. Pete |

Hi again...
Here is what one person told me: -----> Best free solution is run DVDSHRINK, then DVDCRYPTER. Fast, accurate, and great burns. DVDCRYPTER even has a build in bitsetter (for changing +r to -rom), for many popular dvd writers. They are all that I have ever used for making copies. <----- What does, "DVDCRYPTER even has a build in bitsetter (for changing +r to -rom), for many popular dvd writers." mean? Ok. I'm done with all the questions for now. Hehe. Pete |

just make sure your home dvd player can play dvd+r media. From what I have read, dvd-r seems to be more compatible with home players.
I have never tried it myself. but for $99.00 I can get a dual layer dvd +/- RW/cdrw drive. I just rent at blockbuster usually, and buy movies I want for my collection. I have probably right now about 100 titles or so. and always growing. Can;t beat paying $20.00 for 2 - 3 movies previously viewed rentals from blockbuster or hollywood video stores. Alon

When I had to shop for a new DVD player, I took a copy of a DVD+R that I made on my computer and a DVD-R that a friend made on theirs. I made sure that the DVD player at the store could read both before I selected one to buy.
