Finally got a computer virus!
OK, so after tons of web surfing, on line multiplayer gaming, downloads and probably screwing too much with my firewall settings, I've finally come down with a nasty virus. It is called dyflvxy.exe, and its in my C:\WINDOWS directory. I can not delete it because "someoene else is using the program". I can't adaware it away either. It is good enough to preserve itself, and prevent the complete downloading of virus scan software. Pretty creepy, really. It tries to connect with the internet about every 5 minutes or so. I used to have McAfee, and the old McAfee interface pops up and says so. I refuse access, but it just asks again. It looks like I need to reinstall the OS. Anyone have any PC virus experiences? I think I'm finally ready for a Mac.

Had a similar virus recently....I had to reinstall XP....
Works great now :D |
You basicly have to boot to a clean virus free disk...and delete it via command prompt.

Virus
Hi Orkrist,
Have you tried starting Windows in safe mode? This usually stops the virus being so active on your system & allows you to try things with your anti virus programs, or possibly delete the infected file. In case you dont know how, press F8 (top line on keboard) after the BIOS loads & just before Windows starts. Then just follow the on scrn instructions. What version of windows are you using? Shouldnt really matter as they all use F8 to enter safe mode. To get back to normal mode, restart as normal & hope! Hope this helps Peter |
Macs
Hi Orkrist,
Dont go for a Mac The only good Mac I know is Big Mac with fries & onion rings ! Peter |
How did you find it?
Deleting the file may fix the problem and it may not. There may be entries in the registry or other files that can can reinstall it or cause other problems. I ran a quick search and didn't find anything on this file:dyflvxy.exe |
I just looked at the McAfee deal that says its trying to access the internet. Then I just searched for it, and there it was. I haven't even turned on my office PC since then but I will tomorrow morning. Not looking forward to the reinstall..., but I'll try safe mode first.

sometime you can create a new folder and then move the suspect file into it.. then erase the whole folder... it has worked for me at times when nothing else would...
