How do you get your credit report ?

I am just curious about my credit report. I am not planning on buying anything big since I am in college but curiosity is getting the better end of me. I googled "credit report" and a million sites came up but which do I trust ?

I basically have 4 credit cards and I always pay them in full when the bill shows up so reviewing my report sounds interesting.

Thanks

Was it a Federal law that was just enacted which gives each citizen the right to a free credit report per year ? I believe it kicked off in the west and soon to come to midwest and east coast.

look it up at a gov info website.

Not all the states are included yet on the one free report thing....its a gradual rollout....

You can if you want to pay - the gov is forcing CB's to divulge FREE credit reports. I think it's alphabetical.

I know it's a state law here. Don't know about federal.

try:

freecreditreport.com

May be a scam, but I hear about them all the time.

Be careful ordering a credit report. A lot of the CRA's are including an arbitration agreement when you order one on line. So if you order it and find that your credit is being improperly reported you can't go into court on an FCRA claim. You have to use arbitration which is not consumer friendly.

A VERY, VERY good point to know........I wasn't aware they were pulling that stunt.

If you order a credit report through a third party you are giving them your personal information and likely the right to use it commercially. Get it straight from the credit bureaus.

myfico.com is a good site. Read about Fair Isaac at fairisaac.com.

I think that the credit score compulsives hang out at creditnet.com. If that doesn't give you more than you ever wanted to know about credit, ask again and I will verify that is the site I think it is.

FICO is only your credit score, if you want the credit report get the free one. I think by now it's close to nation wide but it is rolled out.

You get one a year from each of the 3 agency's, so spread them out and keep updated. Also a good way to catch ID theft, not the best but OK.

I'll find the link.

BE CAREFULL TOO, some places that offer free ones "Also give you 30 days free credit protection, 89.95 for the rest of the year". If they ask for credit card or ?? WALK.
