Van Staal spin reels.

Does anyone have one of these on a rod? I have wanted one for years and am tempted to buy myself one for my B day. I am thinking about sticking one on a nice G Loomis 7ft medium action boat rod with a few custom touch's. Filling the spool with some braided Spiderwire would make my ideal spinning combo.

Silver is nice.

I don't know about the reel you are talking about but up here we love our Spiderwire for walleye. What kind of knots do you use on it?

I've never heard of them but they sure look nice, I have some vintage Zebco Cardinal 3's and 4's if your interested. A couple are NIB. I pair them up with IMX or GL3's and they balance perfect.

Looks very nice. I've always been happy with some old Alcedo's and Orvis spinners for blackfish, blues and flounder.

The Alcedo seems to have the best drag, far better than a Mitchell or Penn

Oh man! You're taking me back to childhood fishing memories! I had a Cardinal for a looong time. It was my first real (no pun intended) fishing reel. great reel. Bail spring eventually broke and then I got my first Shimano, with - you guessed it - the "no-fail bail".

Wife recently bought me a Daiwa Laguna. She's a good woman.

It's funny. When I was a kid, I had nothing but time to kill and fished tons, with a crappy rod and reel and a handful of lures. Now I have expensive gear, tons of lures and no time to fish. I think I went once last season. Sad days...

Fancy schmancy pretty boy reels--I'll stick with my Mitchell 300's, thank you very much.

Actually I am pretty sure these reels are made in Bridgeport CT about 10 minutes from me. I am a big Penn fan, thats all I use. I have most of them from the little 4200SS to 710's and 5500SS. I love their Slammer and Prion lines as well. When I do offshore fishing I will get a bunch of the International 2's.

Yeah I knew what they cost about $500-$1k depending on what you get. They can and do engrave them. But they are so sweat kind of like a nice watch or car, once you play with one you will want one!

They way I look at it I want either a new spinning or fly set up this year. A Loop or Tibor fly reel costs about the same. I have a Redington fly reel now on my 9wt rod and am not really happy with it. The drag is kind of weak I wish I spent the extra money on a nice Tibor.
