New guy introduction

Hello everyone, I thought I'd give an introduction to let you all know about my project:

I'm an avid Jeeper, I didn't know about 'Mogs when I started or I probably would have held out for one of those. I still hope to own one in the future, but for now....

I'm fixing up an '85 J10. It currently has the 258/T176/NP208 driveline and 2.72 axle gears. It will fly down the interstate at low RPMs, but doesn't have the gearing I need for off-road or towing use. Never being one to compromise, I've decided to run a dual transmission driveline. The secondary transmissions will be a 4-speed Ford NP435 (6.68 first gear), backed with a Ford NP205 transfer-case (1.96 low range).

The engine will be a Mercedes 617 Turbo-Diesel, and the primary transmission will be a 4-speed from a 240D. The main reason I want to go with a diesel engine is the ability to run WVO, and the improved mileage over gas engines.

Welcome. Lots of talented people on this forum - some with great senses of humor. You'll have fun. Some one might even know what you were talking about with your Jeep 'cause I don't. Don't forget to use the 'friends' on the right. They diffuse touchy subjects or responses very effectivley. Have fun and check out the Tech forum too!
