any of the legal options will be expensive. go talk to him--that will give bhd less of an excuse to bash lawyers.

btw, the choices that involve the most legal expense were provided by bonehead.

finally, i can't believe all of these yahoos with the guns and all. if you are going to shoot out someone's fing spotlight, everyone knows you do it with a slingshot and a .50 cal lead ball, not an fing gun!!!!!!!

A pellet rifle is not a firearm........

An Idling Cummins powered Dodge at 2 am is legally expensive in what way?

Legal games, threats, police - what ever happened to talking to your neighbour?

Approach him in a friendly, diplomatic manner and be honest.

"Your floodlights currently trigger when we park our cars and they blind us. Could we work together to try and position your sensor so it is still effective in protecting your property but doesn't trigger when we park our cars?"

You could further point out that your triggering of the sensor provides them with a false security threat.

It's funny because we recently upgraded our exterior lights. We have two brick tower thingys on each side of our driveway, at the entrance. Rather than replace the lights attached to them, we got new glass cut. When I installed some new bulbs into them, I found they were really bright. They were 60W. I walked around my property and out onto the street and found that they really cast a lot of light. I also noticed they dimly lit up part of my neighbour's house across the street. So I simply replaced the 60W bulbs with 40W bulbs. Problem solved, the light is dimmer and suits the area much better - without annoying anyone. Had I not noticed and my neighbour(s) had mentioned the lights being too bright, I would have been happy to replace them.

True, and maybe it's just my polite Canadian side, but even with the jerks I find a diplomatic approach usually gets you farther ahead than fighting it out. Once that happens, you both lose. There's usually a compromise somewhere between both views.

Well the take I had on this was he was either unable to talk with them...or talking with them was useless.......and yes I could have misread between the lines....

I'm one of those neighbors who will be your best friend....or your worst nightmare depending on how you behave towards me...of course you try talking first.......but if that fails you don't have to take being screwed with....

er, uhh, that is what most people suggested--talking to them.

what is a legal game, by the way? you talking about pitching horeshoes or rolling bocci to see who has to turn down the light maybe horseshoes aren't legal in canada?
Er, uhh, I was responding to the more paranoid responses.

Nope, no horseshoes. We throw beavertails at moose antlers.

Agreed talking to them would be best, but if that doesn't work and you must resort to projectiles, chunks of dry ice propelled by a slingshot are the way to go. The dry ice "melts" with no noticable evidence...
