Opinions on bicycles?

I'm looking to get a decent road bike for the summer so I can ride to school and back. Any of u guys run any road bikes, preferrably SS (single speed) ?

Anyone ever hear of Jeunet? I'm thinking of getting a used one that's a single speed conversion.

I really want a bianchi but it doesn't look like i'll be able to afford the price tag. ...even for a used one.

If you guys have any opinions on these "courier" bikes, please share.

TIA

Do you want a SS or a "fixed gear"?
Courier bikes tend to be "fixed gear". It's just a fad to me. Single speeds seem to be a fad too, too many people think they're really burly if they ride a single speed - whatever.
If you're commuting, year round, in a relatively falt city -go for a single speed. Mostly becasue it's such little maintenance. rain/snow take there toll on derailleurs/cables/ and shifters.
If you just want to commute in the summer, get a geared bike. You'll get a lot more use out of it.

Don't get an expensive one if you live in the city......thieves will steal any part they can...and I see it all the time with parts of stripped bikes still chained to the post with everything else tripped off.

Yeah, I'm afraid of the thieves... but what can you do? It happens.
LOL on the burly comment! It's probably true! Everyone and their mother is telling me to go SS. It's more of the "240D/bare bones" attitude, I guess.

I know a lot of people are not fond of Wal-Mart... but this bike seems to be pretty cool and affordable:

Well you will upset if your $150 Costco bike gets stolen.........but if your $1,200 bike gets ripped off you wil lbe crying up a storm...But the expensive bike is far more likely to be stolen.

Now if you were riding and going straight home and it was never locked outside unattended then yes get a nice one.

Try a Recumbent

I've got one of these.

Most comfortable bicycle I've ever tried. But it'll cost you about $2k, so you don't want to leave it unsecured..

Like I said you missunder stood my intent.....I meant go to a Costco warehouse and buy a bike any bike....not a Costco BRAND bike... Big difference between those two things.

Check out your nearest pawn shop.

There's a pawn shop about twenty miles from me. They always have a good selection of mountain and road bikes out front. Great bikes for dirt cheap-- plus you can talk them down on the price.

bikey, he likes it

Ditto, go to garage sales, estate sales, used bike shops, craigslist.com etc. Buy a used bike for your application.

Happy cycling. !

I didn't even think of a pawnshop or the garage sales.... great ideas... thank-you!

I'm just trying to take advantage of whatever warmth we're getting here in the North East.

I don't think so. I have a Costco bike at home. 18 speeds, disk brake in front, full suspension, and surprisingly close to the high price bikes in weight. I paid $189 for it.
