Oh, now I understand. I think it would be fun to restore that old darlin'.

In the eighties I worked with an old fellow that had moved from Wisconsin. As I recall, he worked for Bolens in his younger years. Maybe he built that old mower.

That's what happens when you sell your good name. I think Cub still makes some good stuff, but MTD uses that brand on stuff they build for Big Box stores.

Yes, their commercial series is as good as any commercial stuff out there. With the new Cub stuff if it has a welded as opposed to a stamped deck, it's high quality stuff.

Very well may have!

The real shame is that it just sat outside, unused for more than 2 decades in my uncle's back-40 until I "saved" it. Undoubtedly it would have gone to the scrap yard for steel. In his defense, his intention was just to use it but keeping thing pretty wasn't high on his priority list and his project list was somewhere well into the hundreds.

MTD makes Cub since 1981.

Yes, and I consider my Cub Cadet an MTD. It has those cheap sheaves and a few other cheap parts. It DOES, however, not being the Home Depot level of CC, have grease fittings in MANY places that you would never find on a run of the mill MTD, Craftsman or other residential quality mowers.

Even though CC belongs to MTD, their Commercial Quality units which include most of what they call "The Tank" are not related to the lower level CC mowers. They make one or two of the lower end "Tanks" with stamped decks and other cheapening features, but most any "Tank" with a welded deck is a very well built machine.

If I can't do it with my tractor and 10' shredder deck, it doesn't need to be mowed.

45 ACP hollow point?

Oh, you meant paint it with something to protect it from the elements - not put it out of it's misery - my bad...
