I'm THAT GUY....in my neighborhood...1/3 acre...and a 47" craftsman 20HP lawn tractor, and a backup 8 hp snapper rider. Everyone else has push mowers.

I have one of these... little older but essentially the same.
Best mower I've ever owned or used, that includes a variety of professional Jacobsens.

Now I want the snow blower attachment.... Zero turn snowblower sounds like fun

I have three Cubs---all 1982 or older, including a 1963 "original" which is used to mow my lawn every week.

Watch out for "Yellow Fever"

I love my mower very much. It's a 1951 8N with a shreader. I keep the blades sharp and it cuts pretty clean. Had it about ten years. It was Ford blue when I got it. I repainted it with a shifter paint. I will repaint it soon back to grey and red.

After my youngest son bought a house with a large yard, I wanted to keep him from going out and buying a riding mower. I set him up with my 1962 Cub Original, and he loved it. He raved about how solid it was. Just last week I swapped the O for 127. The 127 is the last of the narrow frames, but is has hydrostatic drive, and a larger deck. Now he loves this one--it has reduced his mowing time by half.
Next step is to let him use the 782 for a while. Then he will be prepared to buy a garden tractor--no riding mowers!

8N looks great. It'll look even better when its in its "proper" colors.

You can have my Cub Cadet. It'll cure that kind of "Yellow Fever" in a heartbeat.

I haven't met a "real" (IH) Cub that could do that. If its an MTD Cub Cadet, then I understand.

Texas is too far to go--even for a Cub.

This is one of those 80's or 90's era yellow painted stamped steel hunks of crap cheap impersonation of a Cub. Yeah, I'd love to have a real one. This is the sort of lawn mower you give to an in-law, or someone you bicker with on an internet forum.

I have a Cub Cadet I bought in about '92 or so. I THINK the model number is 1485. It's a 42" two blade with hydrostatic drive. It still runs and operates great, but I bought a Bad Boy Lightening Z 48" with 27HP liquid cooled Kawasaki about 6 years ago. It's bullet proof in every way, but does not leave the yard looking as nice as the Cub. The advantage to the Bad Boy is that I went from mowing time being about an hour and a half, to about 45 minutes.

The commercial mowers have much higher blade speed, thus they can operate at a higher traveling speed. The maneuverability of a Zero Radius mower really pays off when you have an obstacle course yard like my wife plants.

Nice Ford, Ritchie!

I've got a '57 Bolens Ride-A-Matic (along with the mower deck and cultivator attachments) that was my great-grandfather's. Unfortunately my uncle in Maine took it after he died and it sat unprotected from the Maine elements for 20 years. It's amazingly solid but it wreaked havoc with the engine and obviously there's no paint left on it. I'm thinking of giving it the rat mower treatment and shooting it matte black with glossy Bolens green wheels until I can afford to restore it to its former glory.

What it should look like

About what it looks like

No Swamp! Sand blast it and put it back in original condition like the photograph! It's a family heirloom. Give it the renovation it deserves!

Don't worry, it will be done right when I can afford to do it right. I just want to shoot it with something to protect it from getting any worse.
