Engine value?
I hit a deer with my '84 300sd. The repair estimate is >$5000. I don't want to put that kind of money into an old car, but the engine only has 132000 miles on it and is in great shape. (It starts w/o block heater in -20 degree weather). Any idea what I could get for the engine?

Wow.........sorry to hear about this misfortune. This is the second time someone on the board hit a deer in less than two weeks.
Since I'm right in the middle of doing a head gasket on this SD, I have visions of a newer engine in it. But, the effort is a bit more than I could do at this point. I concur with Snibble. It is worth $1K to the right buyer. But, you may need to wait for them. Most of those engines go for less at a junkyard, but, the risk is more. You need a smart buyer. People on this board. Shipping is the biggest issue and is normally the deal breaker. It might cost $400 to ship it half way across the country. |
