Home carpet cleaners suck...and not in a good way.
But I'll let you in on a secret, you can dryclean your own carpet! You can by the dry cleaning powder @ Home Depot and a berber brush and use resolve to spot the carpet. Then use vacuum it up.....that's it. |
Hoover Agility
I bought a Hoover Agility the other day and I must say it has exceeded my expectations. I used it in our family room and master bath. It did a first rate job. Overall it is a little slower than the professional units but it leaves the carpet clean and relatively dry.
I got a heck of a deal on it...bought the floor model at Kohl's for $128.00. http://media.hoover.com/Media/PageIm.../surf_main.jpg |
I've got a Hoover maybe two generations older. Basically a waste of time. Hope the new ones are significantly better.

Bought a Rug Doctor EZ-1 Pro. Had if for 10 years now. Excellent The don't sell my model anymore :( But they are cheaper in price

I have an Electrolux dry foam carpet cleaner. The carpet comes out looking like new and the advantage of dry foam is that you can walk on it 30 minutes after cleaning.

I have a Hoover Steamvac V2. Bought the original one and it worked well enough for many years. I have 3 dogs and used to have 4 so I used it a whole lot especially when potty training didn't go as planned.

Wet systems inevitably leave a residue on the carpet pile which attracts more dirt. I'm with MedMech on this . . . use the dry chem system, it will keep the carpet cleaner in the long run, especially if you do it more often than we elect presidents. ;)

I bought a Bissell carpet machine many years ago. Basically a wet vac with a vacuum head that sprays soap solution or water in front of the pickup. You hook up to your faucet and set an open bottle of mixed soap solution next to it with a pickup tube in the solution. Venturi effect pulls a fixed amount of soap up and sprays it with the water on the carpet when you pull the trigger. I like to use soap then rinse with just water. Works pretty good but don't let the carpet get too bad between cleanings. We like it and use it (but not often enough). Also came with a small head for doing upholstery and such. Nice thing is all you are moving around is the vacuum head and pipe, just like a regular canister vacuum. Only weighs a couple of pounds.
