300/350 details

What are the differences between 300SD, 300SDL & 350SD models? Is it primarily the year of manufacture or are there other, more basic differences?

The 300 SD is a W126 produced in the years 1981-1985. It has the 5 cylinder OM 617 engine.

The 300 SD was also produced as a W140 in the years 1992-1995. It has the 6 cylinder OM 603 engine (3.5 litre). This engine has had some problems due to bent connecting rods.

The 300 SDL is a W126 produced in the years 1986-1987. It has the 6 cylinder OM 603 engine (3.0 litre). The body is 5.5" longer than the 300SD. All of this additional space is found in the rear seat legroom.

The 350SD was produced as a W126 in the year 1991, only. It has the OM603 engine (3.5 litre). This is the same engine as noted above for the W140. The body is the same length as the 300 SD.

I like the idea of driving around using what I used to make last night's french fries for fuel.
