Check the oil, do you have a auto transfer switch?

MedMech 06-17-2005 12:19 PM

If the oil is a tad bit low it will trip the low oil safety switch, it's fine when starting but when the engine get running the oil is lower in the crankcase and then shutsdown.

That was my first hunch oil ok and oil shutdown relay is good. Did get my hands on a schematic at lunch. Looks like if the relay board gets a bad signal from the generator it will shut down. Going to look at brushes on generator.

What type of fuel? If the transfer switch relay is bad you could have the problem that you are experiencing.

I must add aside from tinkering with boat generators my knowledge is very limited.

No off/on do difference in operation - fuel = gasoline

OK - Bad brushes in the generator $20 for a new set and all is well. Evidently if the brushes are bad the starter control card shuts the motor down
