Internet Beggers

I came across this website of a girl asking to help pay off her 20k in CC debt. ( I think it's old, I remember hearing about this or another person like this a while back)

http://savekaryn-originalsite.com

I guess it would be one thing if she was a single mother and had to put child care on the credit cards over the years. But she admits that she was just out in NY having fun, and spending money she didn't have.

This girl had daily blogs giving progress, and personal updates. What I found amazing was that she was still going out to eat, having her dog groomed, and reminding female readers of the latest sales at Victoria Secret.

The whole thing was amazing to read really. She had most of it paid off and over 2 million hits to the site.

How could anybody give this girl money...if she was still spending money?

If I had that kind of debt, I would eat beans/rice, wash my dog myself, cancel cable, make any sacrifice I could, live in a box, until it was paid off. I'd do what I had to do.

You see what is currently on TV appealing to the masses.

You see what is currently in the auto showrooms appealing to the masses.

You see what is currently in the shoe stores appealing to the masses.

You see what is currently being sold as video games appealing to the masses.

...........and you are surprised at the stupidity of the general population?

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

The average citizen is a moron.

I'd love to be able to track this lady's future debt history, because I have a feelling she's going to scuh -- reww up again. :dunce2:

Of course, all she has to do is start a new web site -- new name -- alter the story somewhat, and the kindness of strangers will again slip her a "get our of jail free" card. Truth is way stranger than fiction....

One thing that amazes me is: how do so many people ever log on to sites like hers? Do people do Yahoo searches for "fools looking for free money?" Come to think of it, how did you find it JB? I'm sure you weren't looking for it.

Hey, mercedesshop is visited by internet beggars too! I can remember a few hard-luck stories by "new" members that, after a few posts, led to talk of their need for money. :(

Social studies reveal interesting things about humans.

When there is a line of people waiting for something, you can often advance inline by simply saying "Excuse me, can I please go ahead of you? I am really in a hurry." It is not foolproof, but it will often work.

Similarly, if you place an ad in a newspaper "I need help, please send money to PO Box ..." money will arrive.

There is a group of people who will always donate, not because of need, but because it makes them feel charitable and good about themselves.

There is also a group of people who realize this, and try to take advantage. On the street they are called panhandlers, but the internet has no name for them.... yet.

Best Regards,
Jim

Is it against the law to beg?

If I posted on the internet a plea for money, explaining why I needed financial help, is that illegal?

I'm not trying to justify here, just trying to understand if there are such laws.

This is quite interesting. How many people will respond with, "No way; you wait in the line just like everybody else". Maybe here in NY, but, in other places? Probably get away with this BS 90% of the time.

Or, if there is a line of cars waiting for an exit ramp, you just pass all of them and at the last possible point, where it is make or break, you make a dive for the line and intimidate someone, or cutoff a truck and get into the line. No waiting for you. You are too important to wait on a line.

LOL, I did not look for it. It was a link from something else. A story that had a reference to this girl begging for money. Haha, I can't remember now how I found it.

I like also how she won't show her face. She'll show enough to see that she is a slim, young blond, but no face.

Gutless, brainless wonder.

This site has been up for awhile, like for a few years as it made national news some time ago.

No doubt the littel money hungry ***** has paid off her debt and is lying to further enrich herself.

Upon further review of her website, she paid her debt off in 2002.

Need I say more.

I actually sent her an email, expressing my feelings regarding her being so shameless. She replied that "whatever works, so she didn't have to"

Yeah you probably could but I don't think you will because I think pride runs deep with you and that's good.

I fail to see what the big deal is. She only served to prove what I've belived for years - the majority of the people on this planet are idiots.

She capitalized on the idiots, and made some money. More power to her. She actually presneted her con in a pretty good fashion. Nobody will be able to come after her, to get their "donation" back.
