Homemade Heads up display.....

Hello everyone, lately I have tinkered with the thought of creating or just buying a heads up display for my Merc...

Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket device?

How hard would it be to fit such a device?

Interesting idea....I haven't seen anything afternarket however. But that doesn't mean they don't exist.

This one will replace in inaacurate targeting that the OEM Mercedes hood star provides. ;)

GM integrated a HU display as an option in some of their higher end models . . . perhaps there's a unit sitting in a junkyard somewhere.

he was talking aftermarket.....I know GM has it in certain vehicles.....that would be a bear to refit into a benze however. it it was even possible to do.

Didn't some models of the Corvettes have the heads up display?

Corvette, Grand Prix, Cadillac.

From the looks of the unit MTI posted, it's gotta be a plug'n'play operation.

Seriously, there must be more pressing projects on a 16 year old car.

I thought those units were a joke. With all of those readouts and knobs I would swear that was lifted straight out of a F-18 ;)

Even then....could you clear up enough space in the dashboard to install it?

Rahulio1989300E 06-23-2005 06:18 PM

lol,

Well it was just a neat idea I had,

I found a unit,
http://www.streetrays.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/28_549

Well two actually...

I really think it would a neat thing to have... it is just another way to make things a bit safer in my opinion...

But the price is what kills me and I seriously doubt these two units will work with my car's speedometer cable... lol

Probably need like an OBD II port or something like that....

I will check so Japanese Mercedes sites I know SOMEBODY over there has done it! :)

The two newest cars that I have hear have it are the new Corvette Z06 and the BMW 5 series

So there really is an aftermarket unit....thats something to file away in the neet things file.

The Nissan 240SX (S13) had a HUD speed display.

It's dumb to put your spped on the HUD. Cop pulls your over and says 'You were going 85 in a 60, I saw it on your display.'

Busted!
