Athlete's foot........help.....

Never had it before I wore some boat shoes a couple of weeks ago.

Had been controlling it(did'nt know what it was) with ointments, liquid band-aid, etc....until last night.

One littel itch that I scratched, turned into a night from hell. No sleep, more itching etc....

Bought some Tinactin today and as long as I am barefoot with the powder on, I feel pretty good, but once I put on socks, than shoes, the itching returns.

Help!

Feet have a ton of sweat glands....hence the Al Bundy effect

Have you tried going to an open toe shoe temporarily? Tevas? Birks? Perhaps that might help if you keep your feet clean and importantly dry.

When I'm not working or running around working out, I usually wear open shoes, sandals, etc......

Looking on the 'net right now for some solutions.

Thanks

See a foot specialist.

Traditional over-the-counter medications are ineffective against some really stubborn fungal infections.

Howdy Plantman,
I haven't had the chance to do this since I heard about it. Try hydrogen peroxide.

Try dousing with alcohol (it'll burn like hell), let that evaporate but don't touch the area. Once the alcohol dries off a nice heavy layer of Tinactin or Lamicil ointment. That should make thing a little more comfortable when you have to wear shoes. When I say "heavy layer" I mean really glob it on, don't try to spread it around, just fill the area between the toes and slip on a pair of socks ( might even try changing socks a couple times a day, you need to keep the feet dry). Trying to spread it will activate the itch again. Living in combat boots for 20 years has me living through this a couple times a year.

Howdy All,
Here is an idea to keep it from breaking out again. Not real scientifc but it has worked for me. I bought some double socks from one of the athletic shoe stores 3 years ago and haven't had an outbreak since. I consider these double socks to be high quality socks with a pricetag of about $10.00 a pair. I wear workboots six days a week in some pretty nasty weather especally heat. These are better than wearing 2 pairs of socks. Also they make even workboots feel comfy.

Last night wassn't as bad as the night before, only woke up twice with a minor itch, but sprayed some tinactin to be sure.

Put some more on this morning after bathing followed by some liquid band-aid to keep clean. Feels pretty good. We'll see once I get dressed.

Thanks

BTW, did try the vinegar and it felt better for a bit.

Wash your feet several times per day. Use soap & water followed by Listerine then dry. Put on an ointment on your feet followed by some powder in your socks. It will take several days for it begin to heal. The most important application is before you go to bed.

That worked for me. Like you Plantman, I used to work outside an awful lot and had to wear boots (usually rubber boots) on the job. Rubber boots in the southern summer get ****** hot. It's a foot swamp in there. Ideal for hungry fungi. Make sure your boots are dry before putting them on.

Combine with extra care foot cleaning. Also get thick 100% cotton socks if you have to wear closed shoes. Clean your shower thoroughly or you'll re-infect. If you usually go around the house barefoot (like me) you might want to wear flipflops to protect your family.

Help!
If you follow my instructions, ( Don't laugh...) you will cure this in under a week.

Bathe feet in large bowl of warm water and 1/2 pint of Cider Vinegar, for as long as it takes to get the skin wrinkly and soft.

Let dry in air without toweling.

Re wet feet with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide....allow to dry. Go to bed.
Repeat this for a few days.

I cannot say too strongly, you must not use preparatory creams or solutions.
This method of getting your feet cleared up is the only way the skin will not react and there are no side effects.

Let us know soon.

These pills B/H is talking about are the worst thing to do to your body....these pills are not cruise missiles....they have no idea what part of the body to attack, so they attack everything.

If you ever take antibiotics....you must follow up after the antibiotics with probiotics.....no doctor will tell you that though....the antibiotic companies don't want you 'cured'...just symptom free.

Sorry Bone....not trying to dismiss your help, but more people get sicker than they should, taking anti anything.

My own personal health is a big deal as far as I am concerned....follow the money.

Never said they weren't harsh.....thats why they are prescription only....but if nothing else has worked for you...they should be a method of last resort.
