with more of the details coming in, 2012 thanks, it seems there was not a whole lot that could be done differently... i feel cops are a bit trigger happy but if i was in their shoes i probably would be too..

This is all very unfortunate for everyone involved, I live in nyc and see it on the news all the time and breaks my heart every time it happens and it seems to happen quite often, but it is controversial and we can talk about a million and one unfortunate and controversial things, but the one thing missing from the story was the Mercedes Diesel, which is what we mostly talk about in this forum. Believe me, I despise those spineless &^%$&^* that would use a child as a bulletproof best, but that's why I love my hobby, when I'm tackling a problem in my 603 it takes my mind away from all the crazyness and senseless things that happen all around us. The human mind is a miracle that we will never fully understand but it can also be the cause of death and unspeakable evil. A good example of this is an est 60 million dead human beings in WWII because of the content of one little sick 3 pound brain who wanted to take over the word, and although this sounds bad am sure there are people out there living among us whose thoughts are even more barbaric.

Being in LA, I am disturbed by this event as well but I feel like there isn't enough information to make a clear judgement on the situation. On the news, I did hear "cocaine and alcohol" and when you combine that with child and firearm.....that's always a bad combination. :(

There also seems to be some confusion at least for me as to the other birth? family and the role of the daughter in all of this.....

I find it difficult to believe that a child used as a shield would not cause the officers on the spot to pull back. I still find the quote from Bratton.....
".......Police Chief William Bratton said yesterday that his officers were well within department policy when they shot carwash owner Jose Pena...."..... to be minimising the death of the kid.

I do not see this happening if a promenent member of society has their kid taken as a shield in the same set of conditions......class does play a role in the administrations of law, as sad as that is.

As to 'rush to judgement'...how long exactly do we wait to say this is a horrible thing to happen, no matter by who's hand. Does Bratton also stand judged as rushing to judgement on the death of this girl by saying the above, or do we leave our feelings about injustice at the door on the way out ?

I have yet to see a post here that condems the killing...apart from BoneHead...now there's a switch.

Are we killing so many people now all around the world , one more or less is justification for indifference....shame on you all if you think that.

It's obvious that you are very passionate about this. It is heartbreaking that a father (any human) would put a kid in harms way like that.

BUT I gotta side with those using logic right now and say that, being as this is the first I've ever heard of the story, I don't know enough information to condemn the officers for their actions.

I would bet this though.....

If one of the officers is responsible (justified or not) in the death of that child, there will be nothing that can be done to him (or her) worse than what he (or she) will be going through on his (her) own.

Damn you liberals and your political correctness!

Nobody is condemning the killing because nobody has the facts.

You are mighty quick to rush to judgement too Brian...

Not saying the police didn't do something wrong... I don't know that.

I agree with your point that the higher ups are given special treatment in the eyes and acts of the law than the lower downs. Our society is seperate and un-equal.

If he used his child as a shield against an angry bear I would feel the same. Its a bad world and grown ups are supposed to know that.

I think I heard on the news this morning they confirmed it was a cops bullet that killed the girl.....but I only heard this as I was walking into the room....I could have misunderstood it.
