 Anyone see Top Gear?

Anyone watch this show on the discovery channel? It's basically about 3 or 4 Brits who take supercars and such out and do various tests, trials, and road trips with em.
Tonight they had a Mercedes SLR... what was even more impressive than its speed was its stopping/braking power (looked downright terrifying, 120mph-0mph in under 210 feet?), though I suppose that is easier to show to us viewers at home braking power than acceleration. It also looked really friggin awesome, I was never really impressed with its looks before I saw this show. They also had a Mercedes G55, which was okay. Then they had a segment where the 3 guys had to buy Porsches (1 each) for $3000 or under, and they had a buncha tests to see who got the best deal. This was more silly than informative...one guy's poor beaten up 928 broke down 7 times within 70 miles, from things like a massive coolant leak to broken piston rings. Anyways, it was on over here at 7 PM and I think there's another showing |

Ara, are you talking about the 635 vs. the 944 vs. the Jaguar XJS-V12? |

Oh darn...someone woke me up. That was a nice fantasy. PS: Ara, my "new" E320 was originally purchased new at a Benz dealer in Santa Rosa. The owner then moved to Santa Barbara before trading in the car. |

yes. i did catch the episode.

I saw the one that was on tonight and I am amazed. This is the first peson I have seen push that SLR to the limit. It sounded great when the gas was floored, and it looked great emerging from giant clouds of white/gray smoke. It was so cool to see a G55 go off-roading. Well semi offroading at least. And I like his comments about the most perfect car ever built. He said that the g-wagen looks good in any enviroment, and I am willing to bet that many of you do too. Anyway i have tivo'd the show tommorrow so I can go back and watch some of the parts I missed.
Cool show, I may have to start watching more often now. |

Top Gear has been going here for as long as I can remember. The tall slightly annoying bloke with curly hair (Jeremy Clarkson) has been on it from the start I believe.
It's one of the few programmes about cars/mechnanical stuff my wife will watch with me as it's really entertaining. Recently Jeremy raced a mew Merc (SLR) from London to Oslo, while the other 2 tried going by boat/public transport. Totally pointless waste of licence-fee payer's money, but good fun :) I think Jeremy would go down well in the States- He's loud, opinionated and has a mental age of about 8 :) |

Top Gear is an awesome show. Wish there was a similar show here in the States and the 2 shows would rival. Now thats good TV

TG is a great show, dl'd some episodes, it's not available statesside, is it?
Current favorite is an all-lambo episode: Miura SV, Countach S, Murcielago all driven hard. Commentator ridicules the discomfort of the Countach while mourning the death of his boyhood dream of owning one. Why do all English get the best Auto TV show(s) and car mags?? |

I tivoed the whole series here in the US. I have not seen an episode on TV for several months now. Not sure if it will be comming back or not. I loved it. They even had a seg on future colletibles and the 16v MB was one of them.
