NO they don't drink, but one of them smoked for a while. I made my feelings VERY clear.

That's just how I am.

I was going to delete Elau's post; but you know what TN-W124 Diesel said something he shouldn't have and got called for it. That was cold dude.

I am no Peter Jennings fan but I am not happy the poor guy died. My prayers are with him and his family.

Did I take to a personal attack on members here, NO, so why let this go on? Forget it, I will ban myself!

He seemed to have a sense of humor. I was watching one tribute to him and they showed some out takes. In one, he was dressed in a jacket, tie and shirt but when the camera man panned down, he had on boxer shorts. In another clip, he was going on about how they had no new footage so thy would show the old footage and some stock film but play it backwards, sideways and up side down so that "we" would think they had some new stuff.

Gotta like a guy who can laugh at him self and his profession.

Elau, you and I rarely agree on anything political. I have to say now, that what I've read in you're post is exactly what I would have said had I posted before yours was edited by the mod. There are many folks with whom I disagree on a spectrum of issues and engagements. There are some here and on other boards with whom I've had heated discussions and occasionally exchanged vitriol. However, I've grown to respect and appreciate their points of view. I'd dare say that what I've gleened from thier personalities, I like them.

Sometimes I write insensitive things relative to thier belief structure just to poke them in the eye. I expect and receive clever reciprocity and enjoy the banter. If something like this happened to one of them, I'd grieve as keenly as if he/she were a trusted friend, though I only know of them what they present on the board.

Events such as this one with Peter Jennings are tragic in that the life experience and potential for good are lost now. Though this kind of calamity occurs every day in the lives of our fellow man and thier families, Peter was an individual we all know. When he passed on, we all felt the wind blow.

Though I am an annonymous schmo on a car website, I sent my best to his family. I rarely saw eye to eye with him politically, but I admire the ardor with which he fulfilled his responsibilities.

You and I are a good example of my point. There's little doubt that we disagree on most political issues, but I've grown to respect what I know of you and have learned from you. It's just too bad you're a gun grabber so I have to keep my distance . By the way, the count down is T-two weeks. Phoenix, here we come!

In the final analysis, neither one of us is likely to change the world. I don't know about you, but the earth-shattering discussion topics on these forums are not typical of the topics I tend to encounter in real life on a regular basis. Better to respect opposing opinions and find common ground elsewhere. BTW, you get within 30 yards of my house and I'll shoot your testicles off.

When the ABC tribute to Jennings was pre-empted by a re-run of "Desperate Housewives" I wrote an e-mail to the local affiliate:

While watching Extreme Makeover the broadcast was interrupted for the tragic news about Peter Jennings. During the obituary the broadcast was cut short at 8:00 HST to show the rerun of Desperate Housewives. This was shocking and insensitive. I am a loss to figure out what happened and I am interested in your feedback. Thank you

This is the reply:

This was an ABC decision. I will pass on your comments to them.

Mike Rosenberg

So, I forwarded the reply to ABC's Viewer Relations mailbox:

If it was, as described by the rep from the Honolulu affiliate, KITV, the decision to pre-empt the Peter Jennings memorial with a rerun of "Desperate Housewives" this past Sunday was a travesty.

And here's the punchline . . . this was ABC's repy:

Thank you for your kind condolences to Peter Jennings’ family. We have forwarded a copy of your e-mail to the family.

Some years ago I ran a tv news department in West Palm Beach. Mr. Jennings was coming to town to do a Nightline special.

His producer called and said, "Peter would like to come by the station and say hello is we can find the time".

Well, everyone at the station was pretty flattered but we weren't sure it was going to happen. Sure enough, his producer called back just after noon or so and said we'll be at the station around 2pm.

He came and chatted with folks for more than an hour or so. Signed autographs, posed with people on the set. Everyone was amazed at how gracious he was. The women were practically hanging on him. This back in say 1991 or so.

I just stayed in the background and watched the charm and charisma. Ironically, I never did shake his hand and meet him. Funny story, my wife came by and told him that when my son was young he would see Jennings on the tube and say that's Dad, (thinking it was me). He signed a picture of himself to my son and it reads To: matt from "the other dad". and signed his name.

That's my Jennings story.

Good luck with that. Mrs. Azimyth makes me leave my testicles at home when I'm away
