Skate

In consideration of the fishing thread... I'm interested in hearing if any of you folks eat skate (stingray)... most folks throw it back, but it seems to be appearing on menus a lot as of late...

I always wanted to dissect one in biology just to see what was inside of them and how their system worked. I never got to do it in our little school. What part of the thing do people eat, the tail, the flat part? Have you ever tried it? Enlighten me. Don't tell me that it tastes like chicken either.

Skates and rays are just flattened sharks which are all part of the elasmobranchs which have cartilaginous bodies. I've handled thousands of rays and skates but never thought to eat them. They're so rubbery it would be like eating a Dr. Scholls I'd stick to fish, shrimp, clams, scallops, abalone, and lobsters personally

Ate them in Curacao, I think. Not sure if it was a skate and not sure if it was Curacao. Whatever and wherever it was, it was great following a wad of ganja rolled in a hunk of burning newspaper. Not sure if my lungs ever recovered, but the food item was good.

After reading your posts I think I will stick to walleye fillets and catfish. These things do not sound nor appear to be appetizing.
