Been there a few times and may want to someday live there....

(I know it rains alot; and no interest in RLD.)

Holland is so tiny, you can live in a smaller nearby town where people are friendlier, and visit Amsterdam whenever you want. Gotta love the fries "met pindasaus", and the smoked eel sandwiches!

You will see when you get there, but as a vegetarian you will miss out.

Kantjil Tiger is not bad, but visit also the Chinese restaurants in the red light district, absolute amazing food.

They have a mushroom dish that I cannot get here.
It is these dark round mushrooms in a brown sauce;
(add some chili paste..)
wash it down with a couple of Heinekens...OWWWWWWWWWWW

...and of course raw haring with onions in Scheveningen, 'boerenkool' with sausage, 'dropjes', 'bruin brood' with Gouda cheese, 'poffertjes', jenever, Berenburger.. Try the floating chinese rest near the Central Station.
As a tourist, definately do a city tour by these open double decker busses, and a canal tour during daytime aswell as in the evening. The Van Gogh, Anne Frank and the Rijksmuseum are obvious and also consider the Maritime Museum, but mind those HUGE ques. See an Ajax game in the Arena stadium, and a show in Carre Theater and the Concert Gebouw. Do a coffee shop (Bulldog on Leidseplein) aswell, and go for a walk in the Vondel Park on Sundays, and visit the (flee)markets on the Waterloo plein and Albert Cuyp, and perhaps the antique district on het Spiegelkwartier. Don't waist your time in the RLD, unless you have to. If you want to live in A'dam, avoid the Bijlmer district and the north side, try to find something in the 'Grachten' area, or the south district.
