Tonight I became a statistic

I was hit by a drunk driver without insurance.

I bought a 2003 Ford Focus SVT on Tues. It was a really nice car. I had stopped at home to check on my dogs and was heading back to work (security manager at a music venue). I was sitting at a red light and got the green arrow. I pulled out into the intersection and heard screeching tires. I looked to my left and saw the grill of a jeep. He hit me right in front of the front tires and sheared the front of my car off. next thing I knew the car was turned around, smoking and filled with dust from the side airbag. I'm fine, my car is messed up, and the guy blew a .28. Here's the kicker, they believe he was at the concert I worked tonight.

I am incredibly pissed right now, and might even go to church tomorrow. Drive safe guys.

Whatever it takes to get you to church is a good thing.
Glad to read that all the damage was to steel, plastic and rubber; no flesh and bones.

Glad to hear you're OK man. We don't do enough with DUI's IMO. A few more inches and you might not be here.

Luckily, you are able to talk about it today. I'm sure the other guy is now feeling the full effect of what he did, and hopefully the law will take care of him. With drunk drivers, there is a reason for their actions: they are impaired and don't know what the hell they are doing. What scares me is seeing 'sober' people taking stupid risks, and being almost as dangerous as drunk drivers because they are late for an appointment.

I've proisecuted people with higher BACs.

The more experienced drinkers can function at a higher BAC than the novice drinkers.

Good luck my friend and I hope that your state has a victim's compensation fund to cover some of your expenses.

For those that don't have it, consider that Under Insured Motorist and Uninsured Motorist coverage is insurance for YOU and is relatively cheap. Some states allow "stacking" of the coverage if you carry it on multiple cars, so check with insurance company.

Condolences on the new ride you were still getting used to -- that's really sad. Keep your fingers crossed that your insurance company declares a total so you can pick up something new. Illinois is absolutely brutal on extreme DUIs (I'm pretty sure 0.28 qualifies as extreme) -- this guy may not drive again for many years, if at all. I know that's not much comfort. In the meantime, try to focus on the good fortune that spared you from serious personal injury.

This coverage probably varies from state to state. In Nevada Uninsured Motorist coverage only covers bodily injuries, not property damage. Essentially it's useless unless you don't have medical insurance.

Volkl42, glad you're ok and I hope this drunken idiot pays you for your damages, for the rest of his life if that's what it takes. He did get arrested, right? I hate idiot drivers, especially those who drink and drive.

Wow I am glad you are ok!

Does the guy own anything of value? You could sue him for damages and maybe get a few bucks for your car.

Yeah, i'd recommend suing as well. Get a lein on his assetts NOW, before the reject has the opportunity to shuck its name off of anything. As far as I'm concerned the only thing this ******* deserves to own is the prison jumpsuit it's currently wearing.

I imagine the insurance company will pursue the perp after they repair or pay off on the car, assuming the car was insured...
