American Wars

Which do you think we'll win first:

War on Povery (Declared by Pres. Johnson March 1964)
War on Drugs (1971 phrase used by Nixon)
War on Terrorism (global struggle against violent extremism)

I'm betting that with spending of approximately $50B per year on drug interdiction, training, incarceration, and related social costs, this one is sure to be won soon.

If we abandon two of them, we may be able to win the third.

I look at it this way. (No offense to anyone.)

Poverty will never go away. Some people will just never have a work ethic, some people just cannot secure a job due to background, or in some cases, all of the jobs are taken by much more qualified professionals.

Then there is the whole drugs scenario. As long as it is illegal and hard to get rid of, there will be a source of drugs. If you really want to take care of the drug problems, legalize it and watch everybody overdose on it. Then see what happens to those people using drugs.

Then the war on terror. We keep spending money on this "war on terror" however it seems that little to no progress is being made (at this cirrent time). We can say what we want to say about the progress, however at this current time I see no progress.

We can keep throwing money at these problems and they will never really go away. Give me the money that they spend on these problems, and I will fix them all for good.

we can win two of them if we put our hearts in a lock box somewhere and get freaking ruthless. Poverty will never fully go away because it is a relative judgement. One man's poverty is another man's wealth

With something over 30 million Americans without health insurance, it is clear the war on poverty has long since been won…..by the poor.

If the cure he has is what I think it is, I'd like to see his practical research demonstrating the accomplishment of the prime directive completely.

I'm sure it's at least as convincing as the research supporting the war on drugs.

You and I prolly agree on the war on drugs. The principle is flawed. It is the gov.'s answer to most problems.

I say let 'em use them. It is part of evolution. The dummies will use and lose. The wise will be around to pick up the pieces. As long as FULL responsibility for the consequences of thier behaviors are carried by the individual user, I think time will kill the drug culture.

Does it involve an all out assault on the Little Sisters of the Poor?

Why not be a terror on war-ism?

I doubt very much our poor would count themselves as "winning" much of anything, except the race to the bottom; a dubious honor, with no tangible prizes. There are closer to 45 million without health insurance outright, and when you factor in those who are also under-insured, then the figure rises to ~75 million--our national disgrace. Katrina put Merka's burgeoning class divide on display for all the world to see, though I figure most Merkans will still cling to a "blame the victim" mentality.
