Any knowledge of joint supplements??

I fast approaching 40, opppps, that was last century...

I still play shortstop on weekend softball games, but getting up in the morning or after sitting for a while, the joints are really feeling it.

Any suggestions on the best, regardless of price (no I wont trade my 95 SL500, yes, I will trade my wife for a years supply) overall joint supplement(s)?

I've got arthritis in one shoulder and I suspect elsewhere too...

I tried those..(forget the brand) for six months than stopped...never noticed any perceptible difference....

I think their effect may be mostly psycological as I tend to be a pessimist so wasn't assuming anything beforehand.

This will of course sound crazy...
My veterinarian suggested I give my very old dog Glucosamine/Controintin supplements that you can get at Sam's Club etc for a relatively reasonable price. He had arthritis (and later cancer) and in giving him the supplements he seemed to improve quite a bit. A few other people I know take the same supplement and claim it works well. Of course, the psychosomatic effect might be working for them. Though my dog did seem much more flexible and comfortable. And I doubt he was an uber genius canine and knew what I was giving him...so...there's my 2 cents. Best of luck with that...perhaps you could get an asian massage with a happy ending...

Sounds like your dog might be a bit smarter than some of the liberals in here, hahah, just couldnt help it !! FORGIVE ME !!!!!!

Yes, Im aware of the MSM, glucosimine, etc, Im just wondering which might be the best. I taking some now.

I hold a difference between vitamins and supplements. I know as we age, certain things that our body use to produce either slows down or stops. So if we can slow that aging process, it would be great.

Pssss, my wife is filipina, I get the massage with the happiest of endings everytime good thought !

This article sums it up nicely: http://www.quackwatch.oGlucosamine for Arthritis
Thanks for the link. It pretty much confirms what I have heard so far.

Although Im seeing "MSM" now also, the supplement. No mention of it in that article.

Your problem is the exact reason Im not into running, I would prefer bicycling for exercise.

I've got a cocktail of every itis there is in my shoulders and a rotator cuff tear on the right (years of resistance exercise)tendinitis in my right wrist (dirt bikes) and aseptic bone necrosis (ex commercial diver) is bothering me in my left hip and right knee. When I favor my hip or knee I then start to get sciatica, but I've learned to stretch it out fairly well.
I'm pretty sure the itis's develop from diet. What happens is if they inflame they grow in intensity from just the pain. I can generally beat the pain with naprosyn and sometimes I just go for cortisone shots in the joint. Once I beat the pain and they cool off I'll be fine until the next time. Best cure I've found is the grease job I got from having a big needle and TV camera stuck in my joints.
I take glucosamine, but can't say it's any biggie.
The ASB is a whole other deal, basically when it hurts it's to late, but the beat the pain routine keeps working well enough that I haven't let them do replacements. The bones have dead spots everywhere, so attaching the replacement can be iffy. This comes from using the old Navy decompression tables that didn't account for hard tissues with poor circulation, and comes from helium more throughly saturating the tissue.
Anyway, if you're near the Southbay, try to look up the "Body Wizard" Jon Franks - he was in El Segundo on PCH. He can do more with exercise and stretching than anybody I've ever encountered.

I've heard of supplementing joints with PCP, but it isn't recommended.

Thumbs up old remedy

The chemical found in turmeric, a common cooking spice, is called curcumin. Very good for relieving swollen and aching joints. You can find it in extract form or just use more in food. Hope this helps. zach

First thing to do is identify the reason(s) for the problem. I had discomfort in one knee for many years. Tried condrotin, anti-inflammatory, heat, ice, rest and so on. nothing worked terribly well. Convinced a doc to take a MRI. The MRI revealed a miss-shape bone. Doc said the cure was to build muscle. I did and the problem never came back.

Other cases where normal activities can inflame part of the joint, such as the bursa. This can take weeks or months of rest to heal itself. Other cases where repeated shock (such as running or jumping rope) can cause inflammation of some or all major joints. Other cases might be a tear in some tissue. Some tears will heal but others never will heal and needs to be stitched up.

So in summary, if you never identify the reason(s) for the problem you will likely not find a solution…

That said, regular stretching will go a long way to off set the combined effects of age and only occasional activity.

Help on the way..........

Glucosamine Sulfate is what you should try....Condroitin is a scam. It's too large for the body to adsorb.

MSM probably won't help either...

BTDT..........been a health freek for lots of years....and over 40.....

The inventor of arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery thinks Glucosamine should be in the water supply.....not really but he says it does more good for acute joint pain than anything else.
