I don't normally like to get in between you two but I think this is a really exciting deal. Skype will allow on-line bidders and sellers to actually talk to each other prior to dealing, which should ferret out the honest from the crooks (on both sides). I think eBay is really thinking this one out cause we all know one of the biggest factors limiting growth for them is buyer/seller trust!

The cost of this deal shows how important eBay considers the strategy. I think they are trying to stay ahead of the game, which means they are still visionary and dynamic, unlike many others.

I agree on this...is it hype or is it really worth that price....the Dotcom era is not that long past and I remember many things simular...

Much like the TimeWarner/ AOL deal...

Time will tell if its not all hype.....

I don't letting the buyer and seller talk is a bad idea, I just think there were a lot of cheaper and just as good ways to do it! Yahoo has had Voice with the their messenger for years now. Just seems VOIP is such a simple technology (packet tech (basically)) that that kind of $$ is foolish. But that's just me.

The money people don't seem to think it was a smart move either.

Then again I didn't buy eBay during the .com era, so what do I know.

?

Basic issue I have long complained about...CEO's and Boards of directors that treat the company treasury as found money thats theirs to blow on whatever they wish......CEO bonuses just reinforces that fact....

I am certain there is better and cheaper ways to do it but then looks who is blowing that money and look where it came from...it speaks volumes.

In the long run they probably figure its more cost-effective to own the technology than lease it from somewhere else. Again, that speaks volumes to me about the depth of their strategy.

Problem with that is this sort of technology becomes dated very quickly..then its value becomes negigible.....and by then everyone is off on a new beter technology.
