Myers-Briggs inventory

Anyone have any experience with this test?

Do you use it to hire? to manage?

Just curious...

Easily manipulated. You can be whatever you want to be. I run a small office staffed by educated and skilled contractors. My influence extends to suggestions to the contract manager who hires the employees. I doubt they'd hire somebody I didn't want, but that would be their legal right.

I don't use any of those 'objective' measures of compatibility as anything special in the selection process. Instead, I use it like I would upon seeing an affectation or mannerism or behavior. It would go into the mix of a very subjective determination of how that person would fit into an office that requires extremely close coordination among peers. I look for a person who accepts criticism of their work but will also stand-up for what they believe is accurate and precise. I look for people who are tolerant of divergent views and are capable of compromise even when they believe they are correct. I don't believe there is an objective measure of these things.

Most of the contract employees have been with us for over 5 years. Some for 15 yrs. They leave because you bastards in private industry hire competent, skilled employees that we train and for whom we provide generous annual education budgets. You use lures of bigger money than we can possibly offer.

I should have specified that you would have to answer the test honestly and not try to game the test.

Given that, are your thoughts different?

BTW, I'm not one of those private industry bastards, although I might take advantage of them if the situation is right. So far I like what I do and enjoy spending the time with my family. It's worth the loss of income at this point.

because it, or any other test is subject to conscious or unconscious manipulation by the test-taker, I accept them as I do a CV.

"Ooookay. What else ya got?"

"How do you feel about receiving correction from your peers? From your boss? From your subordinates? How do you feel about offering correction to them?"

"Which is more important, that you be satisfied with your accuracy and precision or your peers? Please explain if you feel it is important."

etc.

In what we do, we constantly check each other's work. Nothing gets out without 2 QA's and 3 QC's by at least 2 different people. If you can't give and take criticism of your work, you aren't gonna be a happy little mapmaker.

I've done it.

I'd file it in the same box under the stairs as my ouija board and my magic 8 ball.

Two hours of my life wasted.

thanks for the link, it was some interesting reading. I'm thinking that the MB test is most useful in determining weaknessess you might have and then allowing you to work on things you might not have strengths in.

The test is fun and if honestly taken can be somewhat insightful. You also get that narcissistic thrill, in a healthy way, of saying, wow, someone understands my weird personality...Mosy IO psyches use their own tests anymore, or "other" tests, less well known and less "astrologized" than the Briggs to pick their peeps.

But if you called Miss Cleo, you would have gotten better results.
