What did you do during the "blackout"?

I changed the oil, a light bulb, and the in dash cup holder on my wife's Saab. Also did some more work on a pressure brake bleeder I'm fabricating.

I couldn't do too much more because I started shaking from withdraws.

boneheaddoctor 10-15-2005 08:45 PM

me I'm suffering through a horrible cold.....so messing around outside is out of the question...I hung out on www.honda-tech.com giving out plenty of advice to young ones into tuning their hondas.

iwrock 10-15-2005 08:45 PM

I started withdrawls also....

I started to panic when I started a project, and couldn't complete it because the directions were here. I also trolled mbworld.org, bnzsport, and 500e.com looking for some interesting topics, however id couldn't find anything good.

I have a question for the Webmaster... Are you going to restore OD? That 3 word story was at 850 posts last time I checked.

I was back thurday AM....before the blowup....I see threads are scrambled...time will tell how much is lost...but I know some was lost. Seems like some of the newer ones.

J. R. B. 10-15-2005 08:57 PM

I was in the middle of a WVO thread on Diesel Discussion when the site took a  . I hope the article isn't gone for good. I too had withdrawls. I'm glad the thread on the destruction of the 123 is gone and I hope it's gone for good. :) I checked my past posts and they end up sometime in Sept. My PM box shows no PMs in or sent but I know I had three in there. Two were from Boneheaddoctor and one that I sent to Bonehead. That's it for my damage report.

pwogaman 10-15-2005 08:57 PM

You can still get to the old threads by doing a search for them.

looks like its restored from a Sept 14 backup.....my pms are a snapshot from last month...

ForcedInduction 10-15-2005 09:02 PM

Phew, that was too much to handle. I though everything was toast! No more MBShop! I found myself checking the site every 30 minutes or so.

I managed to clean out and prep my TD for the 240D transfer. Not much left beyond the body shell, windows, wheels, and the dash panel. It will be a ghost once the engine is out. :(

boneheaddoctor 10-15-2005 09:09 PM

You guys know what I went through during my two weeks of political exile now....

lot of them act like they are still in diapers....but there are also some very knowledible enginebuilders, racers, and fabricators that hang out there too...

Its not all kiDz thank god.

H-townbenzoboy 10-15-2005 09:29 PM

I just hovered over at MBNZ.org during the downtime. I didn't even drive anywhere during that time period. I thought I would be going to Austin today, but two ill family members changed all of that. I also just listened to good music during the time I'd normally be here.

Frank X. Morris 10-15-2005 10:25 PM

Howdy All,
I was at work today so that killed most of the day. When at home I would check every couple hours.

iwrock 10-15-2005 11:23 PM

I got halfway into the project..... I went back for reference but the site had taken a dump. I left the door disassembled for a day while the site was down. Finally, today I was able to resume the project, and it eventually got finished. It sucked because my laptop had problems with booting. So I had no cache file for the page I needed.

Oh well. I got around to fixing the watercooling on the PC, and I was able to take care of some looming issues with my E. Hey, my car also got a full on detail. (i havent had time to even wash her for 2 months.)

MikeTangas 10-15-2005 11:27 PM

I got brave.

Last weekend I finally caved and hit install on service Pack 2 for XP, everything went well. My upgrade was pretty much seamless, guess I waited long enough for MS to correct their fix. Today, since the Shop was down I decided to activate the automatic updates. Some new critical updates (8) were already up, so they loaded and I shut down the puter and went to dinner with friends...real people.

Get home from dinner and tried to log on, but I didn't have a modem any longer. Device manager show absolutely no devices on my system. I fiddled around awhile, got nowhere so I restored the system to yesterday. Tada, back in the game and now automatic uodates are shut off again.

mzsmbs 10-15-2005 11:41 PM

you all had a black out? damn a bit much drinking don't you think? ;) :D

Austin85 10-15-2005 11:51 PM

Went to walmart got 8 quarts of new Rotella, and a quart of cheap ATF to drain in the AM.
Went to Publix , bought OJ/Pineapple juice, frozen Bialys, those good french fries with olive oil..MMMM..., frozen tortalinis...
walked the pup a couple of times...
watched some baseball....go 'Stros.......

Azimyth 10-16-2005 12:01 AM

I dabbled on the dark side.......Someone named mister donut is urinating in that pool at the moment.

peragro 10-16-2005 12:13 AM

I saw some of your dabbling and Mr. Donut's soliliquys. Couldn't bring myself to register over there though... Maybe one day, as the evil right winger Perago.

cmac2012 10-16-2005 12:44 AM

I registered on Benzworld and lobbed some stink bombs at Botnst. Could be he's spending more time over there since they're less squeamish about political discussion.

Didn't seem as lame as everyone claims it is, but then, what would I know.

I found the Google actually has some of the Mercedesshop.com pages cached. If you run the right search terms you might locate it, but don't click on the actual link. Click where it has the "cached" link. I've found a couple of threads there today before this site came back up. Once you are in it you can't "enlarge" the pictures because that would take you back to the Mercedesshop.com site and out of Google's cache.

Here is an example:

Compare this Google Cache:

http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:hmDhwD6s9PEJ:www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php%3Ft%3D103806+mercedesshop+pwogaman&hl=en

with the actual Mercedesshop thread:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/103806-any-surplus-shops-near-hollywood.html

(note the different number of posts by the same people in the same thread)

Here is a sample of a Google cache that is from the lost days:

But you'll have to admit it is absolutely the best place in the world to get some opinions and feed back on your car's new spinner rims.

Yeah, what's the deal with those things? The seem to amplify the most obnoxious slice of sound spectrum emitted by whiney engines.

Are they of any benefit to the car or do people just like to sound loud, whiney, and obnoxious? Uhh, hmmm, I think I answered my question.

Nevermind.

I think their main appeal is to the mental adolescent,"look at me!!"

the same mindset that prompted kids{myself included}to affix playing cards to the spokes of their bicycles with clothespins.

I seem, for the most part to have outgrown the need for such negative attention,I suppose some never do,perhaps their parents ignored them.

yes but those cars tend to be equiped with bandpass subs so you have the "thumpa, thumpa, thup, thump" you can hear three blocks away wherever they go even at 3am.

Don't forget those chrome reverse dingle balls and foo-foos. At least over here we have intelligent discussion like how to make your own fuel. Even our Three Word Story makes them look like a kindergarten class. BTW coming home from Church today I was stopped at a 4 way stop sign. At my right was a Rolls Royce. We gave each other a thumbs up and mutual nods of approval then went our merry way. We left the other traffic with their eyeballs on the pavement. :D Talk about a class act.

MikeTangas 10-16-2005 03:57 PM

I did pop in at the quieter of the other two places for a spell before losing the modem. That place had been real quiet for a while...open discussing, five posts in and the last post was back in May or something like that. Didn't have the stomach to venture to the rowdy shop, but I did think about it.
