Someone please explain this
From: http://www.patmedia.net/marklevinson/cool/cool_illusion.html
If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink. If you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green. Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot rotating if you're lucky! It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear. This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.

I only saw pink at first. Once I saw the green, I couldn't get rid of it. I kept seeing a green dot moving in a circle over the pink dots, even when I didn't look at the center. What is the explanation?

If you stare at a sharp black-and-white pattern for an extended picture of time, then stare at a blank wall, you will see the "negative" of the pattern you were originally staring at.
Green seems to be the "negative" of pink. When you stare at the center of the circle for a while, then look at another part of the screen, you will see a circle of green dots - this is the negative image of the pink dots. When a pink dot turns off, you will see its negative image (green) shortly afterwards. As the pink dots sequentially turn off and on around the circle, you therefore see a green dot circulating. I have no explanation for the pink dots disappearing ... maybe it is Visine ... |

The pink dots appear to dissappear for exactly the same reason that the green dots appear to appear.
This is a very old trick, but I've never seen this presentation. I have seen static images with instructions to stare for thirty seconds, then stare at a neutral background to see the negative image. When light hits the receptors in your retina, a chemical reaction takes place, which depleats an enzyme while sending a message to the optic nerve. This enzyme slowly rebuilds itself, and our brains are wired so that we don't see this happening. In this example, the enzymes in the red and blue receptors are depleated. You see background because your brain fills it in, when you're actually seeing pink. When the pink disappears, the green receptors get much more activity, with their non-depleated enzymes, than the red or blue. This enzyme buildup and depletion with light reception also causes your retina to become much more sensitive to light after exposure is minimized, well after the iris is completely opened. I'm not a doctor. The above is probably all wrong. I learned this in high-school biology classes, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. [edit to correct spelling] |

Howdy All,
I closed one eye and also crossed my eyes.

Why is green the negative of pink? Do all colors have opposites in our eyes or just some?
As far as I can tell, my neck is normal for my age. MRI six weeks after surgery showed my spinal cord to be completely free of impingement. I wouldn't mind getting another MRI now and seeing what it looks like. The long term consequences of the procedure are unstudied.

Could be that's why the pink disappear. The pink receptor synapses take a nap.
