BMW M5 (nUff Said)

http://automobilemag.com/reviews/0411_bmw_m5/index.html

Quote: "While most comparable powerplants emphasize either power or torque, the V-10 plays both ends exceptionally well. As a result, its sweet spot ranges almost from standstill to top speed. There are virtually no dents in the torque curve and no deflections in the rpm ladder, there is no ratio too short or too long, and there is relentless dynamic and acoustic stimulation."

I wish I could own one even if it was for one day

Yep, freakin' ugly as hell! I'd bet it's going to be as big a POS as the M3 was when it was first introduced. From what I've read, they are already having big issues with the new BMW's regarding repair costs and crash tests. Cool engine but I'll take a forced induction engine over a very high strung high revving engine any day.

I don't like the look of the newer BMW's. You can't argue with the performance, though. I love the older M5's, though. I remember when I first saw one, I couln't believe the rubber on the rear wheels, looking at it from the back. Holy cow!

Did you click on the link for the M-6? Oh man....

That V-10 sounds like it might be quite the experience. Speaking of "sounds," the way they describe it, might have the sort of unique cahonnes in exhaust note of a Ferrari 12, only different.

I'm a bit torn, my BMW is the E-30, it's an '87 325i and it's not nearly as fast as one of these V-10s, but it's sure fast enough to hike my insurance rates if I'm not careful. I can outdo 99% of vehicles on the road, or so it seems, in maneuverability and a quick burst of speed in the 50 to 80 range.

Plus, my model still feels simple enough to tinker with. The newer Bimmers, oh my Ghod, it scares you to open the hood or think about doing anything in the cabin.

I used to get Roundel, the BMW enthusiasts mag, and I heard guys imply that the E-30 had a more raw and rugged feel that the newer 325s and I finally drove a '97, and sure enough, I didn't like it as well.

I've heard a bit about the e-30 M3 -- I gather that it had a 4 cylinder and I seem to recall that it was either 2.4 L or 3.0 L, though 3.0 seems a bit big for a four. Anybody have any experience with that M3?

Narwhal says the 318 handles better than the 325 cause of the lesser weight -- 4 cyl vs 6 -- so I'm thinking that E-30 M3 might be quite the unit.

Is talking about M3s a highjack? Nahhhh....

I went to Roundel's website, and there's all the classified. Seems you can find the best used Bimmers with them, but uh, bring your checkbook. For example:

1988 M3 WBSAK0306J2195921 Diamond black/tan, 26k original miles. Excellent condition, perfect in & out, no dings, dents or chips. Car is stock with exception of aftermarket chip (original included), and Supersprint exhaust. Never tracked, no smoke, and always garaged under a cover. $28,500. 954 224-0223; djminkin@aol.com. (FL)

1988 M3 WBSAK0305J2197255. Cinnabar red/tan leather, 57.6k miles, completely original, never raced, stored inside and garaged during winters, excellent condition inside & out, one owner, pics available. $22,000. Larry: 231 744-2336; njelde@aol.com. (FL)

Yeah, I forgot about that.

I can't believe it buy I'm about to sell my 325, that is, I might do it in the next year. I've gotten spoiled by the Mercedes room and comfort and I'm looking for a 240D with a 4 sp afore I sell the Bimmer.

I can always buy an E-30 M3 after I'm rich and famous.

my brother bought a 2002 m5 and bmw sent him and a guest (me) to the m5 driving experience at the factory in s.c. and lemme tell you, that was a good weekend. they have a fleet of m5's and they let you drive them around the test track very fast! under the auspices of 'driving instruction' mind you! those cars are unbelievable!

Wow, that must have been priceless. What we need in the USA is a Nuringburg(sp?), not something that goes round and round in stupid circles but something you can take your car too on a weekend and just go absolutely crazy with it on a real track with chicanes, dips, rises, loooong straights etc because there is just no place to run an M5 on the streets and most autocrosses near cities are built in car lots
