LOS ANGELES - George Takei, who as helmsman Sulu steered the Starship Enterprise through three television seasons and six movies, has come out as a homosexual in the current issue of Frontiers, a biweekly Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian community.

Takei told The Associated Press on Thursday that his new onstage role as psychologist Martin Dysart in “Equus,” helped inspire him to publicly discuss his sexuality.

Takei described the character as a “very contained but turbulently frustrated man.” The play opened Wednesday at the David Henry Hwang Theater in Los Angeles, the same day that Frontiers magazine featured a story on Takei’s coming out.

Ok...that proves what I always thought too...

Well, I guess he and the Star Trek nerds have something in common now, not getting any action from females.

I saw the story on the news characterized with "What you never thought about Mr. Sulu" - right, another completely incorrect news story. Who didn't know Mr. Sulu was gay?

It was all that "to boldly go where no man has . . ." talk. :D

Mr. Sulu, once we passed Uranus . . . engage the warp drive . . .

Now we know why he always had the grin standing behind Captain Kirk.....

It was always pretty obvious that he and Chekov were the Matt Damon and Ben Aflack of Starfleet.

Sooooo, Sulu is a pillow biter.......perhaps only youthful naivete prevented me from noticing the charachteristic lilt of the fem. variant of flamers. Asi es la vida, pues.

He was always considered a "versatile"actor,to borrow a word adopted by the limp wristed fraternity.

No surprise there.

Shouldn't even be news afaik.
