So, I got kicked off a political survey today...

I received an email today. Here it is:

With one of the biggest gubernatorial races in recent history now in
the books, we want to know Virginian's feelings about the election.

iModerate, a national market research company, has been commissioned to
conduct an online survey to get your opinions on these issues.

The survey is available online and will take about three minutes of
your time. To thank you for your effort, you will be entered into a
drawing for a $500 cash prize.

We are not interested in any personal information, just your opinions
on these current events. Your opinions will be kept strictly
confidential and will be used for research purposes only.

To participate in the study, either click on the link below or cut and
paste the link below into your browser.

http://jngo.net/y.z?l=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.surveysoftware.net%2Fhostbs%2F5105.htm&e=363256131

I decided to take part in the survey and was kicked off when I answered that I was a "Strong Republican"-- the only answer that most closely matches my political leanings. Makes me wonder why they want to get information from people if they only want information from those without strong political views!

BTW, I did go back and take the survey again with the same answers, except that I answered that I was a strong Democrat. Got kicked off. When I answered that I was either a weak Rep. or Dem, I was able to continue.

If you ever get the chance, try to get on the call list of a consumer research group. Many are part of ad agencies or other related business. Once on the list, you'll get an occassional phone call from them and they will ask a series of questions to see if you're in the demographic they are trying to survey. If you meet the base qualifications, you might get invited to a focus group to survey or test a marketing plan. They pay very nicely (in cash) for the hour or so that you spend with other similarly situated folks.

Yep, here in CA I find that if you answer that you are a conservative up front they don't want anything more from you. I guess it would scew thier results. I had one yesterday in which I portrayed a black female democrat who was very happy with Shwarzenegger and Bush.

As for the J dubs; my wife made the mistake of accepting Awake and The Watchtower the other day. Now they won't leave us alone

I've just spent about 45 min. in a chat session with the pollster. Bush used a whisper campaign against McCain there and I gave them an earful of how dangerous I think Bush is to this country.

Dude, pollsters are looking for short answers that are easily catagorized. You can talk and talk and they're not going to cut you off but they'll still mark down either yes, no, maybe or doesn't apply. If it makes you feel better though, go for it.

Well it was a little fun - had to take the poll three times before the chat board poped up. Maybe he had a box for my last line. We needed John McCain

Met the JWs at the door with a side by side double barrel 12 gauge. Asked them which they would like to hear first--The Old Testament or the New Testament. They left and haven't been back

I was at his shop when they came in.....took 15 minutes of him proving them wrong almost every time they uttered a word before they hightailed it out of there.........

He quoted chapter and verse what was in it as well as word for word the passage....when they argued he pulled it out of his drawer and showed them....

First time I saw someone out talk a JW into total submission and retreat...

I regularly get polled about politics by a well-known polling company. The company has a secret way it defines it's demographics (most of them do) and it uses a resampling method to derive its confidence intervals.

One o fthe methods that seems to aggravate is a push-poll. It is an excellent way for a candidate to find out how resistent the opposition is to certain ideas. They get a list of topics that make the candidate look bad. They arrange it from somewhat innocuous to extremely emotional. First they ask a few objective questions that lower your guard. Then tehy start asking the questions one at a time until they overcome a threshold and you say, "Yes, that would make me change my mind." If they call a few hundred or thousand people, a pattern wil emerge. The candidate will use that pattern to guide his attack on his opponent. The method works, too.

Most candidates for higher offices in which lots of outside money comes in use focus groups and push polls to guide the candidates to the best approaches to hot-button issues.

If you don't like it, tell them and hang-up. That also goes into the responses that they are trying to model--what they don't want to do is piss-off potential voters. This tells them when that will happen.

I've got to admire the guy for out talking a jw. I used the 12 ga. technique because I finally had it with them coming at inoportune times and pushing themselves and weird beliefs on me. They have to be the rudest people on this planet. I have a religion and I don't need or ask for theirs. If they come again I think I will invite them in and I will commence to drink beer and eat hard boiled eggs and pickled garlic.
