The question is, after 5 - 10 years in jail and some sober growing up, are they more worthy of a second chance than some repeat offender adult.

In this story, it was her first offense, her accomplice was older and had a record. The whole thing smells fishy. A case of, like I said, the banality of evil.

Why should a 17 year old get a lighter sentance for a murder than a 27 or a 37 year old would get.

The victim is still dead and the victims family deserves to see the murderer or their accomplis in jail

Don't know about you, but when I was 16 I knew everything!

That really stinks though. Reminds me of when we were kids and someone did something nasty in the classroom. Teach would make someone confess or threaten to give the whole class extra homework or call each one of our parents or detention or something else. Someone would eventually confess, and sometimes it wasn't Smelly Pete. Eventually he would take the blame for everything, even though it wasn't him... odd.

I dunno. You figure it out.

I depends on the circumstances. A lot of 17 year olds have been so thoroughly neglected by their parents that juvinille lockup is actually a good growing experience for them.

This case was just too weird -- very little was cut and dried about this one.

17 is an adult.....they were considered adult for thousands of years and assumed adult responsibilites and all was fine...

In my mind....commit an adult crime do the adult time....no breaks due to age.

Hell if anything they are younger they will will be younger when they come out...all the more reason to throw the book at them.

Like I said.....stolen property is one thing....but murder is murder...that can't be undone.

Doctor, hate to break it to you, but this thread shows the depth of your inquiry into various issues. I doubt you read the article yet you're damn certain you know enough to pass judgement.

Murder should of course, carry a serious penalty. IF you did the murder. This case strikes me as a miscarriage of justice. Maybe if you'd read the article, you might have had a moment to pause and consider that possibility.

They's been too many people cleared of murder by DNA evidence, after 10 - 20 years in the slammer, for me to have absolute faith that every convicted person is guilty, guilty as sin, tie 'em up and throw away the knot.

If she had anything to do with the fool who did it she should serve the time.....just like Bank robbers are.....

You may want to suck up to the criminal eliment but I don't...

I'll bet if it was your family member that was killed you would be taking a different stance.

THe evidence was there, she confessed.....tough titty...she should serve the time....even if her boyfriend was the triggerman..she was involved.

Give me a *#@^%^# break, you knee jerking knee jerker. Ain't sucking up to nobody. Ya noticed that we got a booming prison population? Costs money. Then we let most of these fools out after 10, 20 years or more of getting up to eat when the bell rings. Their minds have largely atrophied by then, and we give 'em cab fare and say "Good Luck!"

Punish the guilty and free the innocent, if you can determine that someone is largely innocent. You think some 16 year old, lovestruck girl is as guilty as the creep who drug her into a situation she, likely as not, did not plan or even expect?

And as for being a family member of the victim, the victim's son wrote in support of her parole, this after she served 22 years. Gov. Pete Wilson, R, California, vetoed that parole at the last minute. Never did like that dick. Should'a seen pictures of him, posing with Schwarzenegger in the late 90s, looking like a blushing groupie girl, trying to grab a little manliness by association with Ah-nold. Wilson was a bureaucrat dweeb.

The girl's parents were deprived of their daughter for 30 years by some creepo gang banger's bad influence. Now they can enjoy a few years with her before they die. I'm most impressed with your Christian mercy, Bonehead Diddler.

There is a HIGH rate of repeat offenses anoung paraoled prisoners....you want them released in YOUR neighborhood then fine...I don't want them in mine.....

Becasue as soon as they decide they need money guess what...somebody gets robbed....

The daughter chose to hag with a gangbanger creep...she should answer and pay for her crimes...

not get a pity party about how she was "influenced" by someone else....

plenty of 17 year olds are masterful manipulators and anything but innocent.

Hey, I'm willing to give them a second chance....AFTER they have did their full sentance and have proven themselves worthy of it.....

Think, doctor, think. Why do you think parolees tend to reoffend? Might be because they're even more clueless after they get out than when they went in? Our 60 to 70% recidivism rate should be a national outrage.

READ THE DAMN ARTICLE.

This lady was ready to be realeased 10 years ago. It's a waste of money and just plain cruel to leave someone like that in jail for way longer than is necessary.

What did they chose to do during their incarceration? Study adn try to better themselves or participate in prison rapes?

Life is what they chose to make it...make the wrong choice and you pay the price...

Kill someone..or hang with someone who did and then tough...you are judged by the company you keep. THats why I chose not to hang with that element...

Like I said, Doc, I may as well be trying to convince an Oakland Raiders fan, some guy with silver and black face paint, complete with skull and spikes, to root for the Denver Broncos.

Sixteen year old girls deserve a little better than, "sorry, shouldn't have spent time with that guy -- see you in 50 years." F*****g barbaric.

I think you might have accidentally chosen the wrong religion for yourself.

Not barbaric by my eye....if it was for shoplifting then yes...murder then 50 years is too little.

THose of us who follow the law are entitled to live our lives not being in fear of those who chose to break the law.

Absent that, we should at least be able to defend ourselves from them with whatever effective tool necesary.

Does that apply to music piracy?
