Thumbs up U2 still rocks!

Went to the U2 concert last night at Staples Center.

It was umm....not cheap but well worth it. They still have a ton of energy which I think is cool after playing for so long. It was also Larry's birthday and they all wore "The Larry Mullen Band" t-shirts.

They even let a girl band up on the stage and they ripped up "Out of Control"
That alone was very cool. The lead singer seemed like she was in shock but I guess that's what happens when you're on the spot to sing for 20,000 people

I'm not a U2 fan........and I never listen to Bruce Sprinstien any longer....

they want to be political loudmouths then they lose my patronage.

I go for the music cause they do put on a great show.

Nonetheless, I understand you have to play the politics game to get real results and he has. I believe Bono's intentions are genuinely humanitarian. I'll leave it at that.

I have more respect for an artist who keeps their politics to themselves....

I'm funny about that....I actually liked Brue Sprinstien before his stunt last election.....but that cost him my support and a lot of others who think like me.

I dig U2... I kind of admire Bono's commitment to his causes, and I always thought he did a good job of pursuing those commitments in a non-partisan way. It seemed he was just as aggressive with Clinton as he was with Bush to get funding for Aids in Africa.

Anyway, I digress... yes, U2 still rocks!

That's how I feel about John Mellencamp. I want to like the guy but he's a little bit full of it.

Plenty of reason for entertainers to keep their politics to themselves.

I don't care what way they lean ( as long as they stay quiet) but if they plan to use their fame to push their agenda then they will pay a price for it.

That applies to actors too...all the ones who said they would leave if bush was elected....well we are still waiting and they haven't left yet....

When the lead singer of the Dixie Chicks spouted off about her lack of respect for George W. Bush during a concert in England, I threw away the one Dixie Chicks CD that I had.

She probably doesn't realize that probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 80% of her fans are Republicans.

Politics aside, I think U2 rocks.

Only thing is the steep price of tickets, how much did the tickets cost?

The tickets ended up being $300 for a pair which included the stupid "convenience fees". They are $98.50 tickets but I got them through a broker because ticketmaster was flooded when trying to get fall tickets back in March. I did get April show tickets however. Turns out these were the best seats yet. It was funny because the security guy at the gates looked at us and said "hey...you're in the VIP section". I am sure I looked dumbfounded but psyched at the same time because I always have ended up with nosebleeders and always went to the nosebleeder entrance. Even then, we were off to the side of the stage but we had access to unlimited $5 bakery goods and top shelf liquor at the "American Express Lounge"

They had one sweet stage setup with LED floor lights on the circular runway and screens made of stranded LED bulbs creating a diffuse artistic effect ...very cool stuff.

I like U2 a lot, but rock 'n roll seems all but dead. Where are all the new major rock acts? It seems that only 'oldies' like U2, RHCP, and even the Rolling Stones and loads of other bands from the 70's-80's are capable to fill stadiums these days. What's happening to rock seems similar to what happened to jazz: music for seniors (no offense). HipHop/rap artists like Eminem, 50ct, etc appear to be taking over mainstream popmusic. Cool !!

Not arguing, just curious -- what makes you say "cool?"

I think some of this hiphop/rap is 'cool' music, incl. Eminem and 50ct

Fairplay...

I am intrigued by its popularity. The only thing that bothers me about it is the mood. Ever seen one of these guys smile? It's all angst (not that angst hasn't been a part of music before now). I mean, Eminem got in a pi$$ing contect with a dog puppet! What was that all about??? Express concern for the themes of violence toward women in his music and get yourself a not-so-pleasant mention on his next album. Whatta guy.

On a lighter note, I find this Eminem "interview" absolutely hilarious:
