So we never launched any offensives in the middle east until after 9/11? Huh.

no...................we did help our allies in Kuwait when the Iraqi madman had a revelation that it was his land and he wanted it back....

But they started it not us.

Gitmo was set up to contain enemy combatants caught on the battlefield in Afghanistan. The Taliwhacker government had been warned many times that they would be held responsible for Bin Ladin's actions. They chose not to believe it. Stupid move on their part.

Are there prisoners in Gitmo who came later from Iraq or other places? I have no idea, nor do I give a rat's ass. They are there for a reason.

Must be some scary chit, because supporting, in writing, extreme interrogation measures is something that either party would love to pin on the other. Wonder what it could be....

Bot

It would appear that they wish to prevent the administration from embracing any of these methods.

The question is what information has come to light whereby the Senate would act to prevent any of these methods from being utilized in the future? The fact that a Republican Senate would take a 180 degree turn and sponsor legislation of this magnitude has really sent me into a quandry. Something is going on that we don't have sufficient info...............why it that not a surprise?

We're supposed to be better than them. Might be good to actually hang onto a moral edge.

Smart dude.

..................................That should be obvious even in Berkley.

''Although 15 of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, federal prosecutors have alleged in court documents that it was Mohamed Atta of Egypt, Ziad Jarrah of Lebanon and Marwan Al-Shehhi of the United Arab Emirates who "formed and maintained an al-Qaida terrorist cell in Germany" in the late 1990s.''

So, 15 Saudi's, 1 Egyptian and 3 AE's attack you, and you attack Afganistan.....Hmmmm.

And what country was Bin Ladin operating out of??? Where were the Al Quaida training camps located??? What country was providing sanctuary and facilities to Al Quaida??? Have you forgotten already??? These are not really trick questions.

Bonus question:

What two countries kicked Bin Ladin's sorry butt out???

Ans: America/UK.

Question: Who supplied Bin Laden Stinger missiles to bring down Russian attack helicopters ?

Question: Who's administration was that ?

Question: What nationality is Bin Laden ?

Question : Who supplies most oil to US ?

Question : Where does pipe line from oil rich sites in the Middle East need to run through ?

Question: Who has been supplying funds to Bin Laden.

Not really trick questions....

For that, I want Bin Ladin's head on a stick, as well as the rest of the Al Quaida leaders. There are folks at Gitmo who knew where he could be found. Shame on us for not persuading them to talk. That failure will probably result in another attack. That should be obvious even in Berkley.

Of course we should have gone into Afghanistan as we did, we much international support, BTW. I'll bet a big portion of the poor fools fighting against us in Afg. had only the barest clue about what happened on 9/11. My point is that their knowledge of enemy intelligence is probably not much deeper than "we fight to defend our homeland...our religion...we slay the infidel." No logic to it, certainly not much point in hoping there's some intelligent logic goin' on there.

I've heard many reports that most of the detainees at Gitmo were small players who were slow enough to get caught. I seriously doubt any of them has accurate information on where OBL can be found. He's probably gone through 10 secret locations since then. I've heard that some in intelligence believe that OBL has limited power now, that current terrorist threats come from new cells with new leaders who want to be the next OBL. The guy's a friggin' rock star in his scene. Everybody in that crowd wants that action. I wish we'd found him too but I think you're oversimplifying things.

Well Bot, I understand your information is all obtained first hand; I don't know quite how you do it, traveling the world, interviewing various major players and double checking all info you receive for ultimate veracity.

OK master of all that is knowable, what does one do with reports one gathers from the news? Assume it's all false? Or true? How about perhaps gradually try to weave it all together and see what bit of news supports another.

Jay-sus, I wish you could see yourself.

You assume many things that are unproven and untestable and from them you derive opinions that you present as facts.

I listen to reports on the ground from various locales. Having no other evidence to go by, I compare this data with historical information, which is hopefully more solid, having had to endure scrutiny for at least a few months. The things you say I assume feel more like tentative hypotheses to me.

Your assertions, not mine. You defend them, not me.
