Visited a used car lot, got caught in a Crossfire
Nice car. The seat and controls were very M-B. Anybody own one?

It's nothing like a Cabriolet.

We wanted to but an SL500 at this chrysler dealer, and we wanted a lease. They said it was too old (1998), but they said we could get the crossfore SRT for the deal we wnanted on the SL. We drove that, and although it is a very very nice american car, we pushed for the SL. That may be new, but there is no saubstitute for the 3 pointed star.
The SRT version is like a bat outta hell. It is very fast, but I feel that it just doesn't have the soul or the finesse that a BENZ does. We just about bought that Crossfire, had we not recieved a call from another dealer saying they could give us the deal we wanted on an SL600. |
I'm definitely not in the market for a used Chrysler anything. I've owned 3 since the early 1970's and two were POS. I own the Talon Tsi because well, it's not really a Chrysler now, is it?
OTOH, the Crossfire isn't a Chrysler either. Hmmm. The seat was really comfortable. I was surprised at how they had engineered such small windows but still didn't have big blindspots. My Talon has more glass (I think) but is a ***** to see out of. The dealer took one look at me (dressed for lawnmowing) and saw middle-aged guy with disposable income looking for a rocket-sled. Practically throwing the car keys at me. I thought I was undercover. Well, it's still to early. Having two kids in college has just about destroyed my budgeting plans for this year and next. Even with a scholarship, I wildly underestimated the cost. Maybe my third kid will enlist. Bot |
Excuse my question, seems I missed something! But what the hell, Chrysler couldn't be, or should be expected to, offer MB quality for any expectation! It would be counter productive on their part!
On the other hand, naaa, I doubt it! This is a forum for people who own MB cars, we have, at least I have, discovered an automobile that is, or at least had been, my awareness developed only to year 1987, have owned 4 MB's, including a 450SL, that these cars are machined, developed, above and beyond most if not all, other production autos. I have owned Volvo's, BMW, Jaguar, Ford, GM, Moper, MG, Rover P-5, and all of the 4 MB's I've owned are, where, of the best! Newer MB's in my opinion, an opinion derived from a working class person with mechanical skills, me, I have no knowledge. Maybe this forum is beginning to be MB.org, and I'm not a |

Bye now. B |
My younger brother just bought a Crossfire SRT a few days ago. He paid $34K for a brand new car - this in Detroit where cars are cheap. Sticker was $49K. That is a whole lot 'o performance at that price point. Dunno about the car, I've never been in one and said brother lives 1000 miles away from me.

I'll look at one, maybe even have a seat in one. Not sure if I would take it for a test drive. Why? I'm still pissed about that 88 POS Chrysler LeBaron conv. that I had to endure.

She's insistent on a 2-seater ("'Cause they don't make a 1-seater"--Mrs B), which is why I've been reading the SL forum and taking an occasional look at them. I'm also interested in taking a Beemer for a drive. I know Ted likes his, so I'm gonna see whazzup wit dat. Bot |

If it looks like I may go down that road I'll join a BMW forum. Which is what I should have done BEFORE I bought my first M-B. Duh-OH! In any case, I'm still about a year away, according to my latest budget projection (which lasts until one of my daughters finds out I have money squirreled away). B |
