Talking

Oh, she eats it alright. It just doesn't stay with her that long.

Like the jockeys say "Flip it."

Of course, I don't know if Giada does. I also didn't know that she was of THE De Laurentis (There is only on "i" in there) family.

Hum, that explains the LA connection. Not that she isn't a talented chef, but the name sure helped open the doors for the talent.

Why do I say she can't cook? I can tell from her knife cuts. Success in the food business is 90% hard work, 5% luck, 5% food.

Giada is good at what she's doing, but put her up against someone like Mario or Iron Chef Sakai who have finely honed fundamental skills and you'll see the difference.

I agree that G-spot is a cook, not a Chef, and there is a difference.

I put her in the same league as Sara Moulton--remember her? And I don't mean that as a slam to either G-spot of Moulton. There are also plenty of males who I wouldn't consider chefs but cooks: Dean Fearing and even Emeril.

BTW: I thought it was only me who thought she had a honkin' melon. Actually, she was originally cast as the sister to "Head" in "So I Married An Axe Murderer"

I don't think you have to be classically trained (or someone's idea of this) to be a great cook/chef. Sushi chef vs. an italian grandmother cant be compared on the basis of knife cuts--they are two, unrelated arts.

ps: my knifing skills were learned at Johnson & Wales in Chas. SC on the weekends. I learned more about cooking by doing and watching others than in th eclassrom.
When I say someone can cook I'm looking at familiar people like Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, and not so familiar like Alfonse Constricciani and Ed Leonard who represented Team USA at the Kochkunst.

Great cooking cannot be described, it can only be taken in. It only takes one time for someone to understand. Great food can be had without great cooking, great food can be had from not so great cooks, but great cooks always have good fundamentals. They're great behind the stove and they're great under pressure. They have great wit and humor in their food and they never miss a step. It shows in the final product whether it's Gumbo or a fried egg.

Lots of people can cook, only a few attain Master Chef status. Those folks can really cook.

Speaking of knife skills . . . have you seen that VW commercial where the two guys drive out to some remote truck stop-like sushi restaurant? Who ever the hand model was doing the slicing, that was great.

Yeah I noticed that too. The way she presses down on the knife and then starts to saw back and forth. I'm still just a chefett and even I know that with a serrated edge the cutor starts the 'slice' before you touch the cutee.

You're right on the percentages too if you add 13.8% heat in there.

BUT, she's really good at what she does. The show is put together well and she's got a "personality" to boot. Very few chefs can do what she does.

Is it just me or does she have more teeth than you're supposed to have?

But everybody just waitaholdit!!! This thread is about ME and MY awakening to the joy of cooking! She was merely the extra virgin olive oil that got me greased up and ready to delve into new territory.

Right now my whole condo smells, 'cause I've got a HUGE pot of Italian soup simmering!

I'm trying to get back into cooking too. Hell, it's in my genes!! Better food, costs less, and you actually know what you're eating!

Was that picture before or after you told her she can't cook?
