Tzatziki Sauce

I'm addicted... always have been my whole life.

Anyone else?

(I'm not even Greek!)

diametricalbenz 11-10-2005 04:10 PM

Mmm...Gyros.....although I was told by a Greek girl that it's prounounced "yi-row"...good stuff. :D

MTI 11-10-2005 04:11 PM

Is the pronounciation close to "Year-ost"? That's the way my mom taught me, but she's not Greek. :D

GottaDiesel 11-10-2005 04:38 PM

STOP! It isn't my next meal time yet!!!

Glad I'm not the only one that loves this stuff!

The closest I can describe it is "Year-oh" singular and "Year-os" plural. I had her pronounce it a few times so I could burn it into my long term memory. She was happy to do so after explaining how she gets pissed when people butcher it and say "jai-roe". ;)

A kalamata a day . . . ;)

I learned to love gyros when I was a pastor at a church on North Clark in Chicago with a Greek restaurant next door.
I have a friend, who I have told that it's 'year-os' but he continues to order 'guy-ros' in a restaurant. I'm waiting for a waitress to slap him to his senses.

I think it's funny to hear the way people say things sometimes... The absolute best is the way people kill the Italian food.

What the F**k is a Manigot? I mean is it sooooooo hard to say it right? The vowel is on the end for a reason. Makes me sick to my stomach when I hear people in a restaurant.

Go order your Calimars and your Manigots, you friggin' fools.

Ok. Sorry, back to Greek food. ;)

damn, that's too funny i just had a giro when i was out running some errands.. love the stuff.. it's also called gas in some parts of the world..

GottaDiesel 11-10-2005 05:57 PM

You think that's funny. I'm broiling up some boneless center cut chops (as I type this!) with spices and then I'm going to let it cool for 10 min. cut it paper thin and make a sandwich with it. Mayo? NO WAY... you know what is going on that bread!

Ymmmmmmmmm Ymmmmmmmmmm! :)

mzsmbs 11-10-2005 06:02 PM

well, you know. i used to eat that stuff almost everyday.. kebabs too and i mean the flat ones.. yum!

GottaDiesel 11-10-2005 06:17 PM

I bought a boneless leg of lamb... can you guess what's next on the menu?

There's a TJ's in NJ?

I just had homemade Gyros last night, along with homemade sauce - YUMMY!

Now, if I can only get a hold of some Oktapodaki, I would be blissful!

Years ago, in the dark days, when I lived north of Detroit, I had a job for a while in Greektown - naturally, I "sampled" quite a bit. :D
(sigh) those were the days...

Oh... they pronounced it: Ye - roh (ye, as in Ye olde shoppe, and roh, as in fish roe)
