Love/hate the Holidays
I swear I'm gonna need therapy by the end of the year.
I love Thanksgiving. I love my MIL. We're the perfect personality fit. I swear if she were younger.... We cook together, eat duck cracklin's together, make croissants, it's pretty fun in the kitchen. But then there are other relatives whom I can do without. They're the kind who bring all sorts of baggage to the table. I don't know why it bugs me but it does. Maybe because it's always in huge loads. I can only practice what I preach so much and then I get real annoyed. I mean, consider the following conversation: I hate my job. (this is guy in customer service at a major tool company) Why? I never get recognition for what I do. The managers always take credit. Have you ever considered taking a leadership role in projects? It's pointless, there's no where to go. To move up one of the managers needs to go. I'm tired of doing things for other people. Well could you move up a level and not take a manager position? I don't want to move up. The last manager got fired. Is that what scares you? No that's not what scares me. To do it I'd have to do something underhanded. . . . ad absurdum ad infinitum And then there are other real dumba$$ things people say and do, like refinance the house but underinsure their life just to save a few bucks just so they can have Direct TV, or spending 2k on a damn Plasma TV but making their kid save $80 to buy a new Target bicycle. I don't care, but just don't shove it in my face. What's wrong with me and why does it bug me? I need to get over it.
