Anyone here purchase a Mercedes new in 1985 or so?

If so, what other models did you consider and/or test drive?

How much did you have to pay for your "new" 85' Benz?

The Dr that I am friends with purchased the SD that I have in about 85. He still raves about the car and really seemed to like it alot. I think fuel mileage was a big buying point. The original owner owned a trucking company and picked the car up for his wife. Since he owned a trucking company he already had people capible of maintianing diesels on his staff and got cheaper fuel. I am not sure if the original owner still drives MB's or not, I don't really know him. I see hime ridding his Jesse James chopper now and then.(very cool bike ) If I remember the story correctly his wife wasn't a big fan of the car and didn't drive it much. Present day I think his wife has a Bentley GT if I remember correctly.

My 190E was purchased in 1985. I checked the dealer imprint plate in the document package, there it was . . . the car's purchase date, May 14, 1985.

For those of you who aren't original owners, the dealers stamp a metal embossed plate with the owner's name, address, the build date and the purchase date, along with other codes and VIN info.

According to the Invoice, salesman Walt Sharon at the Edward K Cumming & Co., Inc. dealership, 416 Morris Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ, sold the car for $23,720.00, but with a $3,745.00 trade-in allowance, and after taxes, fees, the cash, out the door price was $21, 113.00. The car was inspected on May 1, 1985 and delivered on May 14th with 229 miles on it, possibly it was driven and not trailered from the Mercedes prep center in Baltimore, MD or had some "demo" miles.

The only thing of note for this car was that it was originally destined for Lewbar Imports, Inc. in West Springfield, MA, but it was "diverted" for purchase to NJ. The car came from the factory with the orthopedic driver seat, which weren't wanted, so they were swapped for the standard manual seat

According to an inflation calculator, tied to the Consumer Price Index, my car would cost $42,095.00 today.
