Ted Stevens...nutcase

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pork_barrel

In 2003, The Los Angeles Times published charges that Stevens had gotten rich through influence peddling, steering government contracts to his associates, and insider trading, all of which Stevens denied.

The details of the case are as follows. In 1997, Stevens invested $50,000 with developer Jonathan B. Rubini. In 2002 Rubini and his partner bought back the senator's interests in their deals for $872,000. During the time that Stevens had money invested with Rubini, Stevens steered a $450 million contract to Rubini to build and own housing at Elmendorf Air Force Base.

In 2005, The Anchorage Daily News published reports that Stevens' son Ben Stevens held a secret option to buy into an Alaska seafood company at the same time Stevens, was creating a special Aleutian Islands fishery that would supply the company with pollock worth millions of dollars a year.

In 2005, he also prevented oil executives from being placed under oath when they spoke before a Senate comittee hearing which he was the Chairman. While it is unusual for this to happen, it is well within the power of the Chair in the committee.

Subsequently, evidence came to light that they lied about their involvement in a 2001 Energy Task Force meeting with Dick Cheney's staff to the committee. Congress now is investigating this apparent inconsistency.

Senator Stevens is a member of The Republican Main Street Partnership and supports Stem Cell Research.

A good case for term limits in all branches of government.

Let divert the subject to an entirely different one.

That way we don't have to discuss the original subject!

It is another liberal conspiracy just like persecuting us Christians by substituting Happy Holidays for Merry Christmas.

It just shows the liberal media bias--fair and balanced is what I want--like Faux (did I spell that right?) News.

I'm concerned though. You know those damned Puritans banned Christmas celebrations, too. It just shows how liberal, sectarian, and Christian-baiting they were. They even burned those conservative innocent, unsuspecting witches to death--just to confuse us. Another liberal media plot I suspect

I hope everyone is taking their meds. I know I am.

Again, you prove my point that you ARE a nutcase...
"terrorist wannabes that is trying to bring canada down to the level of your average middle eastern country"

That's a strong statement, you should be banned for saying non-sense like that.

Why I havn't responded? because I don't patrol the forums you like you...
AND ALSO BECAUSE NO ONE BROUGHT IT UP!!!

Liberal party corruption in Canada. Basically it involves $150 million canadian that went to ad agencies as commision for often no work. I'm not going to defend the govn't, but at least in canada hold the govt ACCOUNTABLE. The voters will decide if the Liberal party will stay as the government in the election in January.

Did anyone catch the footage of Stevens on the floor of the Senate giving his answer to whether or not Alaska would forgo the funds for the "bridge to nowhere?"

The answer was "NO" but you had to hear it to appreciate it. Loud, bitter and sounding like a 10 year old kid who wasn't going to share his ice cream with his sister, no matter what.

I spent some time in Alaska. Didn't like it all that much, sad to say. Lot o' hard-drinking guys and really crappy architecture.

Hey...your country is the one letting Islamic radicals in with no checks....and whining about having to present pasports at our border as a result.

And there is no larger group of nutcases in Canada than the Quebec sepratist nutcases.....but then...gather a group of french speakers and you expect stuff like that to happen....and not just in canada.

and Sorry last I checked the USA is not a Islamic country.....so I can make those statements without being tossed into the woodchippers like Saddam used to do.

Funny..from your abrissive character I am willing to wager you are one of those pro-Islamic Canadian types. 90% of your posts are purely inflamitory.....I think YOU should be banned for that....

I thought it was beautiful... I was near Fairbanks, and took a quick trip down to Denali. Pretty country! I agree with the drinking, though -- it's almost as bad a the northwoods of WI. Must be something to do with the cold!

Well, you're right about the natural beauty, no doubt about it. I went up to Juneau on the Alaska state ferry system when they still had a port in Seattle. I think you have to go up to Vancouver, BC now. What a gorgeous ride that was.

One night we saw spectacular northern lights. The next day, a college girl who'd lived there all her life said it was the best she'd seen. It was my first time! Did I luck out or what?
