I was always amazed at the kind of tips I got when I drove cab. Forty, fifty per cent was common. Maybe it's cuz they were trusting you with their life or they were thinking about the danger in being a cabbie. Some people, zip, but oh well.

I treated the old ladies especially well and most of them couldn't afford to tip much, but hey, an old gal, a widow probably? Jeez, you got to.

I don't deliver pizzas but I do stock in a grocery store and at this store, the stockers have to drop what they're doing to go carry out groceries when the cashiers call us. It can make for a very long truck day when its busy during the day. I usually average about three to four dollars a day, enough to cover my lunch. People tend to tip better when we have to work on holidays and bad weather days, like the round of "snow" that just hit us, which I'm sure you folks up north wouldn't even bat an eye at. My dad is, in my opinion, pretty rude to waiters and such. He usually tips well but I always slip a few extra bills under my plate because I feel bad because I'm also that guy with the crap job that has to put up with people like him and am very grateful for whatever people will give me. Even quaters from older gentlemen help out. Even if I get crappy service I usually leave at least one dollar.

I didn't know that most people tip Pizza Guys at all till I was about 18. And personally, I think giving someone $2.50 for a tip to deliver my $14 pizza is outrageous. Do you tip carhops that much for walking your $12 worth of food out? I carhopped, and I wouldn't dream of that. A buck maybe, but not that much. Its a pizza, not a dine-in restaurant.

For the record, I tip at least 15% at restaurants unless the service is crappy. Then its a tossup wether I tip at all.

Talking tipping

Also used to deliver Chineese food in the summers back in Brooklyn, was a master of shortcuts . Going down 1 way streets the wrong way to get to an address...always had plenty of apartment buildings to go to ....tips were good , but the best tip was always a scantilly clad hottie opening the door for her MooShoo !!!

becasue the tips are what most delivery drivers count on to pay their vehicle costs adn some of their pay....

God knows the restaurants aren't doing it.

Yes..but after 14 year of explaining this to her you would think she would understand, or at least remember. I go through the same explaination every time....

Probably shouldn't have taken it, but I did.

Surprising thing is, you'd be amazed at the number of ladies who order pizza who are really happy to see you at the door.

Course, I was a little cuter then.

They were probably happy to see the extra sausage.

I hear ya. I ALWAYS smile and tip extra if someone in my party is a jerk. Nothing worse. I have NEVER understood why people are rude to anyone in public service, let alone food service workers. These folks are preparing and delivering the food you will eat... as in ingest...

I know all too well what can wind up in a bowl of soup or on a burger. Why would anyone risk pissing those guys off?
