London or Paris - Cheap Euro Lights?
I will be going again in a few weeks and was wondering if it's worth my while to try and hunt down some cheap Euros for my W124. A large empty suitcase is often useful for bringing back some goodies - I never thought about it before, but I guess transporting some depos rather than Dom Perignon might be more practical. Any thoughts?
I've done the Notting Hill/Portobello road market on Saturdays and have seen what appear to be some dodgy folk selling car parts. I usually keep walking - is it ever worth stopping? Will I actually find anything useful? What about Camden? In London I stay in Chelsea; in Paris I stay in Bastille (11eme). I'm assuming if any real bargains are to be found, they are in Paris. But I also don't like the thought of getting too far out into the Banlieue, especially with the recent violence. Any ideas?

Avoid london...they drive on the left side of the road and beam focus will be off for the USA.......France however drives on the right side of the road. You will have to wait for recomendations of where to look there however...can't offer any help there.

Excellent point - I don't know how, but I forgot that. I guess Euros from the UK won't be any good to me. On that note, however, what about replacing my little "hermit crab" shrunken passenger side mirror with a full-size driver's side UK mirror? I always wondered why Mercedes decided on this weird little mirror. Anyone know if a driver's side mirror from the UK will fit?

French eurolights are unique..... they have the yellow fog lenses. Very nice in my oppinion, especially on the w123/w126's.

In London: see a West End show, try to catch an Arsenal or Chelsea game, and take a walk from the Eye, via Horsegards, Westminster, St James', Buckingham, all the way to Hide Park. Take a double decker back. Oh yeah, don't waist time on the shops: it's all the same everywhere.

Thanks for the tips - actually, I go to London/Paris on average at least once a year, so I am more than familiar with the sights. All the things you mentioned, I did years ago so it is already out of my system. Although I'll agree, a walk down Champs-Elysees is one of my favorites; I actually like to walk all the way from Defense to Tuileries...
The purpose of this thread was actually to determine where to find Euro headlights for my 300E in either Paris/London as well as whether or not it is worth bringing them back. Earlier in the thread it was determined that Euros from the UK wouldn't be suitable due to improper lens focus.

In London you can still buy the compatible rear tail lights for cheap. Look for German & Swedish car part company, they have many branches in London and they sell Fifft and MHW clear corners which are of very good quality.
http://www.gsfcarparts.com/ I always make a stop at one when I am in London to visit my bro. |
