Looks a lot like a 59 190E my Dad once owned...didn't have anywhere NEAR the wood that the 220S had!

Mmmmmm.

I'd love to let the Mexicans fill her with new leather too,
although the seats don't really look bad at all.
I'd refinish that dash myself.

I'm surprised it only brought $2700 ?

Oh wow!

That is exactly the kind of Benz my friend Joel had in college, back in 1996. (Joel B, are ya out there in mercedesshop land??) The dash on those is just *insane*. I can't fathom what it took to build that. His was also a 220S. It had two items this one lacks, though:

Webasto canvas sunroof which rolled back over the rear seat

Mohair upholstery

It was just otherworldly. Not a ball of fire, and handles ponderously, but what a car. An "S" Ponton is probably the most "old world costs be damned" car you can buy for Hyundai money.

(At the time, we had parked at that house the 1958 220S, 1969 VW Squareback (bottle green!) ,1967 Beetle (all original) 1987 Audi 5000 Turbo (mine) and when my then g/f came over, 1965 VW Kombi.

We was cool kids when we were 20...)

That glovebox looks better designed than the 80's ones, every old Benz of that era I have seen has their glovebox not fitting flushly with the rest of the interior, it's always sticking out. Paint aint too bad for an almost 50 year old car... that would be cool to run around town in. Are those steering column shifters as crappy as the chevys from 30 years ago I wonder...

Funny, all this time I was afraid to explore this thread, only to find it's about a car
