Is Skiing a White People Sport?
 

Been skiing almost everyday this week and I've yet to see a Black or Hispanic person. I've seen maybe three Asians all week. Maybe it has to do with the fact that we're in Minnesota. Seems like minorities pick other things to do to keep fit during the winter.

I don't ski. Never have. Don't have an interest. I like watermelon, BBQ ribs, turnip greens, and fried chicken. Is there a correlation?

I like watermelon, fried chicken, greens, and ribs. In fact I'll top you one and confess I like fried pork rinds as well.

You don't have snow. Same with skijorring and other snow sports, or even ice fishing, though I know a few Asians and one black guy who ice fish.

Ski Slope demographics are the opposite of inner city basketball courts, if you want to find asian skiers go to Heavenree CA.

But it's also a MN thing, how many minorities do you see at the Pickle in Nisswa?

As recent as the early 90's, some people sued a country club close to the one where I worked because they wouldn't hire white servers.

One of my good friends is black, and he'll kick most people's asses in tennis. Although when I mentioned skiing to him, he cringed and laughed all at the same time. Dunno.

On a side note - If the race issue comes up in conversation, I'll address black people as black. He seems pretty comfortable with it. In fact, there are many times when we just hang out and he calls me "nigga". I'm not sure how that works, but it sounds cool when he says it.
Yet, if I'm having dinner at some ritzy white place and meeting with people of high stature (like a college prof or phd), if I say "black", they quickly jump in to correct me and say "african american". The world is strange.

I have a friend who is "African-American" and he can pretty much beat me in most sports. However I can beat im in a few sports like golf, tennis, and some others. I think he is just a little lacking in hand eye coordination, because he cant hit the golf ball for $*^%. owever, at sports that require speed, like football, he will almost certainly kick my ass. He can ski, but he cant ski very well. Instead, when I go with him, he usually hangs around the lodge hittin on chicks, while I an out on the slopes on my snowboard.

By the way, I am asian. Well actually, half asian, half white.

If you were a chick you'd probably be pretty hot. ;)
