downloading music question

can i just download just 1 song? i know it was illegal before, is it legal now?

what website do i go to? how much does it cost?

i am particularly interested in the 'chacha slide' if that's the name of it?

any tips are appreciated. this is a christmas present on a student's budget

Napster is still alive and well...and legal also! There are many choices for downloading mp3's. XM Radio and Napster both have a "free trial" period right now if you want to score some tunes.

Jen,

learn about something called eMule. I like it because you can download just about everything, and what I like to do is download and listen to it before I buy it.

I use iTunes. $0.99 per song.

I surf for Dance music a lot, and the "Cha Cha Slide" is available in the iTunes library.

The disadvantage is that everything is in mp4 format, so while direct download to an iPod is seamless, conversion to mp3 requires burning to disc first, then uploading to mp3 format. Itunes has a proprietary copyright encoding in each download, so direct mp4 to mp3 conversion is not allowed on their software...

iTunes is the easiest to use in my opinion. Limewire is still free, I only download "pirate" when iTunes doesn't have the song I want but I always check first.

I'm not going to reveal my secrets to getting most of what I want for free....which do not involve anything that can get you busted by the Music Mafia.

Whats wrong with people getting paied for their work?

BUT there IS something wrong with having to buy music again, after you crash your computer... keep a log and make sure to save ur stuff to a disk eventually

Before boneheaddoctor gives you both barrels of his morality, you might want to get a head start by perusing this thread.
