Out with the GS300, in with a 300SE
Jettisoned my 2001 Lexus today, in favor of a `91 300SE. I've owned lots of 114's and 123's over the years, but never a later model (to me, anyway) big-body. Anything I should watch for?
I've already noticed a low-pitched groan coming, apparently, from the steering column, from under the dash. In addition, the heater fan's a "squeeker" on low speed - not too many months away from becoming a squealer, I'm afraid. I'm open for any advice/suggestions on this last-year 126. Thanks!

I can't think of a single thing to look out for in this car.
The last year of the W126's was rock solid. The M103 engine continued for one more year only in the W124 chassis. The early M103 engines suffered from valve guide wear, but this was worked out by the late eighties. M103's have a ratcheting timing chain tensioner, unlike the M117 / M116 V8 engines, which use a timing chain tensioner that relies on oil pressure. Thus, because of this, and also due to the fact that M103 engines have a very short timing chain, these engines don't require timing chain replacement. Ever.
