123 230TE info needed

In my search for a decent 123 TD, which I have all but given up on, I found a 123 230TE I may be able to trade for. I believe its a '84. Not sure. I need to check and see if its a 4 or 5 speed as well. It is a manual.
Would it have a M102? Is it a decent motor common with the 190 2.3?
What kind of gas milage should I expect?
It has been parked for a yr or so. PO claims it has a leaking fuel line. Says the car has around 120K miles on it.

Thanks,
Dan

Whiskeydan,
Try your best to get into that 230TE cheap (particuarly if it has a manual) and then stick a 616 or normally aspirated 617 in there...über sweet.

I would avoid it. It's way underpowered and the engine could provide some serious parts availability issues.

Underpowered!!?? you should do a little more reaserch before posting comments like that i have a 1985 230TE and that thing will out perform any 300D,TD or CD that i have driven, and that is with the A/C on!
i work at a mercedes shop here in san diego so believe me i have driven many diesels. have you owned or driven a 230TE?

get the 230TE and keep it original. thaose cars are quite rare in the US, it has the same basic engine as the 190E 2.3 but with a larger displacement. i so far have been able to get every part i have needed, a few had to come from germany, but took a few days. do you have any pictures of the 230 you are concidering?

No, but I've driven U.S. 190E's and I could smoke 'em with a bicycle. No doubt the Euro puts out more HP, but then the car weighs a lot more than a w201. In any case, I'll defer to your experience.

Yeah, that's a 190E 2.6, and you're right -- they move real nice.
