Whats the fastest anyone have gone on a E320?

I got to 130Mph and and that was it? any one had a better luck?

Not a W210, or an E320, but I have had the 400E up into some serious territory. The GPS read 148, and was still going.

Now, the 600 will bounce off of the limiter without a problem. It is quick and smooth getting there.

I'm not admitting ANYTHING on a public forum! :D

All I can say is that I've had to make some evasive tactics which required some quick bursts above the legal limit...but nothing like the first post!

The great majority of Benzs sold in the U.S. of A. since the early 1990s have 130MPH speed governors installed. So that is the top speed of perhaps 90% of the MBs out there. A few won't reach 130 (diesels, mostly). A few are ungoverned - AMG cars and V12 cars. I'm surprised the 400E does not have a governator installed. Your lucky the E320 has one - the tires installed on these cars are only rated for 130MPH (H-speed rated). Above that you are at risk of sudden and violent tire failure. Which generally results in a sudden and violent end of your life. The E320 would be capable of about 140 ungoverned.

You do know that trailer tires are rated for 65mph MAX, right?

Anybody ever seen a trailer doing more then 65? Thats unrated territory...

Even it your tires could take the 140, I dont think it would be a good idea. Anybody know what you have to buy to remove the limiter?

I'd try to see if I can break 130 in my dad's identical 98' E320 but the autobahn isn't anywhere nearby. ;)

Hey, I didn't say all diesels won't reach 130! I actually owned the first 1998 E300 turbodiesel in the U.S. - I bought the press car from MB USA. So ya, I know it's fast, I know it'll hit the limiter at 130, and I know the unlimited versions are good for ~138, 139MPH.

Wish I could get a turbodiesel in the wagon body on this side of the pond.

i did speed limit in my 300D on the highway

iwrock 12-23-2005 08:47 PM

Ok. I do not condone speeding, violence, or illegal activity, but I just wanted to find out what would happen, and if it would make it. I did this on a 4 lane road, that is little traveled, and when so, its for semi trucks. I did this all on my old set of Z rated low profile tires. For those of you who dont remember, Dave M did something of this sort in his 500E, and was just seeing if a V-8 powered W124 could handle it.

The 130mph limiter is crap. If I had an E320 I'd get it chipped and remove that stupid thing.

The E55 has a limiter to! Again if I paid $90k for a new one and bounced off the limiter I would bring it back to the dealer and tell them to remove it or no deal. Imagin getting passed on the Autobahn in your brand new S600 at only 155, I would be pissed.

Limiters or kill joys are just so MB can cheap out and put H rated tires on their cars.

It is amazing how smooth these things are at speed, thats the scary part.:D Thats why I have an SDL, if I had a 560 I would get myself in trouble.
