cars teenagers drive...

When I was a teen, I was lucky to have a rusty VW Beetle with no heat. I'm amazed by the cars my kids' friends drive, high dollar late model stuff. We live in a semi-rural area, so 4x4's are popular as well, but am I the only one wondering why kids today can't drive a POS like I did?

want to see my last 2 cars? a 92 ford tempo from CT with rust everywhere and an original snow tire.. we drove it down to fl when we moved... second car.. a beat up dodge colt 1.5 litre.. i swear until i got the benz non of the engines had triple digit torque or power


i know about the kids and their nice new cars. same thing at my school.. i got over that .. but still the chick with the lifted f-250 diesel powerstroke must persish she doesnt need it .. whats she going to do put shoes in the back?

but my car is probably the most reliable in the whole parking lot when i get to drive to school.. their is a newer mercedes ill probably park next to it or park by the early model lexus.. or with the diesel pickup's just to be cool ..


before i wanted the benz i was hell bent on buying a.. rust old beetle with no heat.. i duno im weaird but i like challenges.. like welding heater channels

I have, in my flock of vehicles, a 1984 Toyota pickup that I have nearly driven into it's grave and then restored again..........mechanically. It is an offense to behold, though. I think I'll keep it that way until the next to drive Azimyths end their formative driving experiences. The older Azimyths did fine with it, so the younger ones should enjoy the hallowed tradition too. It's cheap, dependable and I don't care if they donk a mail box or two while learning to manage a machine of it's nature.

While being gutless is an asset which limits youthfully enthusiastic throttle stompage, that truck is a beast off road where real vehicle capabilities are tested. I like to take it up into the mountains to go shooting because the usual trail damage adds character........chicks dig body damage!

to the point, we could provide better vehicles for the offspring. However, after the oldest Azimyth Jr. totaled a nearly new $20,000.00 4x4 Toyota taco while "goofing" around with his friends, I realized that people only value objects for which they must sacrifice.........hence the junker rock crawling rust bucket child humbler.........oh what a feeling

I remember my first car was a 200.00 1968 pontiac tempest, that I got in 1983, and was beat to *****.

My how times have changed. My cousin drives an 04 Blazer. My son's friends all drive pretty new cars for the most part.

Whatever happened to starting out slow?

Quick easy reason why kids drive better cars comes from my economics class: "Because this country is better off than it was years ago" We have more people and our productivity surged as we became more efficient. The more stuff we make the better off everybody is, hence, higher GDP.

When I was in high school I had a brand new fully loaded GTI VR6 (2001). I bet when I get old and see the cars the teens will be driving I'll say the same thing: "Damn, we didn't get to drive cars like that when we were kids!!!"

on my grandma's side of the family their is some rich folk that married in so they are rich lawyers etc.. my mom was talking on the phone with my great aunt who is on my grandma's side and she was telling her how i have an 85 mercedes benz 300D.. i said.. yea im the only one in the family that owns a mercedes.. and my great aunt agreed since the richies lease their caddy's and other expensive cars.. so ha to them they may be family but i own a benz

Yes, I started off with an 85 Toyota Pickup. Gave it to my brother, loved that truck. But now I've got something even more amazing, a w126. But whenever I'm around the local high school, it's sickening to see all the Audis and Bimmers. Sad thing is, most of them are totaled eventually. Oh well.

I learned to drive on my 85 300D, it got me through high school without one problem, besides a vacuum leak. Good car to have in a parking lot, with the chrome and rubber bumpers... i remember when I misjudged its turning radius I rubbed a 20 year old accord's rear bumper with my front bumper and scraped it up pretty nicely, couldnt see one blemish on my bumper.

I learned to drive in my 400E. But then again, the only reason I drive the 400E is that my dad bought his SL600, and just let the 400E sit. So I took on the responsibility of maintaining and caring for my automobile. I would be driving a POS Honda right now, but we kinda blew the motor up one day.

I drove a 1977 240D all through highschool and the first two years of college. Then when the frame became too rusted my parents were kind enough to treat me to a 1992 300E. Had it been for my almost nonexistant income, I, too, would have ended up driving something very slow and rusty. I guess that all I can see is we are lucky that we are kids in recent times where money seems to flow a bit easier.

I think a kid's first car should be something he/she had to turn some wrenches on to get it running again. Would learn something and have an appreciation for the very fact that it runs at all. I've seen too many teenagers total relatively new rigs. Easy come, easy go.

valve adjustment next week oil change too fuel filter changes also..
