Your Last Car; What Would it be and Why?
 

Gang,

As I have mentioned in other posts that because of Guillain-Barre Syndrome and CIDP, my driving days may be numbered. Because of this, I have looked at V12 S Class cars and others of that type.

What are your choices and why, if you chose a last car to drive? :)

id have to get ahold of that SL 400 CDI Biturbo powered hardtop convertible mercedes has .. drool its my dream car id sell my soul for that thing with 1,000 year unlimited warrenty converage..

I think that I would have to have a SL73. Extremely powerful motor, that is built off of the M120 V12. It is the same motor in the pagani zonda, but in a much nicer package (the R129).

If not, I would have to go with the supercharged SL600 with 600 horsepower.

That sucks though. If you are really on your way out, you should really look at something like a Ferrari. You will have the ride and time of your life driving that beast, doing your daily tasks in it. Hope you get what you really really want int a car.

Is there a budget? Would it be my only car?

Too slow ;) Get the SL65!

1970-73 MGB roadster, because that's what I had back in the day and because no car I've driven since then has been as much fun. If the weather was bad, I would want to substitute an MGB-GT for the roadster. Luxury is obviously not a high priority for me.

I'd just like to get this Sprite done. It's my dream car. And nightmare car. All rolled into one.
Based on the couple trips I made with it (without doors, front fenders, hood, or seats) it's going to be a blast to drive, but not good in bad weather (although it is somehow taunting me to drive it on a real cold dry Wisconsin day somehow, just to see what it would have been like "in the day"), and also not much good on the Interstates either. It will be begging for curvy rural roads and maybe scenic state highways, but tops out at around 70ish mph. Not the kind of thing to mix it up with the semis, I think it would fit under a few semi trailers, but in no rush to try it out.

It has a MB heart! For fun the AMG engineers played with the old M120 mill. They bored it to 7.3L, and stuck on a titanium valve train. It revs sky high and puts out loads of power.

It really depends on the budget.

You can get nice 308's for $30k, or you can't go wrong with a V12 powered MB.

A Zonda and it would be my last car because I would crash it into something.

I should tell you this, that price is a factor as mid-twenties to thirtries price- wise, and I am 6'4" tall and almost as wide. I gained a lot of weight because of the steroids used for treatment. An automatic trans is safer as it is easier for me to use on the bad days, but, I do enjoy a manual. I can't do much of the wrenching myself anymore, so I need to find my MERLIN, with the exotic stuff. No Indy MB or BMW shops up here, Willliams Motorworld, in Lansing, is the closest competent shop but, he is the Factory Authorized Dealer and don't know if he can or wants to do the older V12's and SL's. I have found a local Alma shop, that takes real good care of me and can fix just about anything but, is not set up for the computers and coplexities of a newer BMW or MB or Ferrari.

My thinking so far is an MB V12 in the S or SL, cars. A 400i Ferrari, classic front engined 2+2, or whatever I can fit into with my walker and wheelchair, that I must have these days. I've even thought of doing a Jay Leno like, freshening up of my old '76 Buick Electra 225 w/455V8. It's a boat for sure and is OK to use as is, but I've had it for 30 years. There are so many choices that it boggles what mind I have left.:D

1970 442 W30 convertible. But NOT as a daily driver. For me there is nothing like the thunder of a big block under the hood of full size pre mid 70s detroit steel. Feeding them is another story.

My very last car to buy?
 

A used 2055 Mercedes diesel. They should have the problems ironed out by then. It would be a good car to drive when I'm 108 :D
